The new Scorched album is fucking brutal, but the artwork does not suit it at all Oh meant to tell you I grabbed that Petrification LP over the weekend.

Hyperdontia is album of the year for me and doubt it'll be topped.
Agreed there's so many solid DM releases this year. Burial Invocation, Scorched, Mortuous, Taphos, Tomb Mold, Of Feather and Bone, Outer Heaven.... and a ton more.
glad this is back btw i missed the old thread. always lots of good recommendations.

That's exactly what it is. It's A2 on guitar and mean Steve on vocals

Fuck yeah. That band Terror also had some Clevo folks in it as well if I remember right.

this just released last week. check this out if you're into chuggy heavy DM with some strong Morbid Angel Domination influences and some more recent bands like Scorched, Vastum, Genocide Pact, etc.

Hitting up that Cannibal Corpse/Hate Eternal/Harms Way tour this weekend. Was going to drive down to that Tomb Mold/Horrendous show in Philly but it sold out . I know that CC almost certainly just phones it in by now (and I don't blame them), but it occurred to me the other day that I've never seen them or Hate Eternal and I'm stoked to finally cross them off my list.

CC is great live.
I may be a poser for saying this, but I cant stand Horrendous. Also Outer Heaven is extremely overrated and boring. Sorry, but I'm so over the new wave mid-tempo throwback death metal these days. After that last Phrenelith record, bands need to stop because that was the pinnacle of how its supposed to be done.
Although, the newest Scorched record is fuckin great.

I do agree that the style is getting a bit oversaturated. I was all about Undergang too but when they played here they acted like assholes and their set was really boring.

I did like the new Tomb Mold too. I like Undergang. They really have revamped their performance after firing their guitarist who also played in Phrenelith. He's a major turd, and I really feel it brought the band down overall. Current live videos of them are like a completely different band. Much more energy.

I enjoy Horrendous but I definitely zone out when listening to them. Haven't seen em live yet. I did see Outer Heaven, and I thought they were great, but Tomb Mold bored the fuck outta me at Migration Fest. Didn't make it all the way through either of their records.

I saw Cannibal Corpse last year? and they bored me to the point that I just left. Obituary and Cryptopsy blew them the fuck out.

I honestly haven't really been in to anything horrendous put out since the chills (sweet blasphemies fucking ruled too). everyone raved about the follow up albums which were for sure sick, but just not my style as they wen't more and more proggy. then I saw them in 2017 and they only played newer shit off their last couple albums and nothing from the chills and I was bummed.
CC fucking rule live and are not boring at all. Plus, they play scourge of iron in pretty much every live set and that's the heaviest song of all time.
as far as the whole mid tempo cavernous death thing, it's slowly getting a little played I guess but I still see bands trying to be Nile and Origin way more than trying to be like Dead Congregation. there really has been an insane amount of good albums in this style over the last 5 years so I gotta appreciate it for what its worth

I cant think of any newer bands influenced by them. Prob because they're more influenced by Morbid Angel and newer bands simply aren't pulling their influence from MA, though they're repping MA shirts. Whats hot is Finnish influence. I get it, but it's over saturated. Though there are some solid bands doing it. At this point, I cant even handle bands who use HM-2's anymore either. Nails rules, but they're different. I'm rambling. But the point is, stop with the cavernous shit and start ripping off Morbid Angel more.

Noisem used to have a lot of Morbid Angel in their sound and it was awesome!. Haven't heard them since half the band left two years ago though. NO idea what they sound like now.

I did really feel some dead congregation vibes in that new Burial Invocation record tho. it's no wonder I like that record so much.
for Morbid Angel vibes....and doesn't seem like a lot of people agree with me so maybe my ears are fucked, but instrumentally I got a ton of tucker era morbid angel vibes on that last Belphegor record. They still have some of that black/death sound that comes through but other than that the guitar work sounded like it was from the formulas/gateways era to me.
