His momma was probably the reason you didn’t catch anything haha I know a guy who shoots seals with steel balls in a slingshot when he’s salmon fishing. He also says he wants to harpoon and eat an orca, so...

His momma was probably the reason you didn’t catch anything haha 100%, they hang around the bait balls waiting for the salmon to come and just pick them off. It’s a shame the orcas down by me are salmon eaters instead of seal eaters.

Fished out in Florida bay yesterday with a buddy and caught a handful of redfish and small snook. Starting to learn more of that area so it was cool to go to a completely new spot and find a lot fish. All fish were caught on fly and Zoom jerkbaits sight fishing in super skinny water. Can someone give me a dummy proof way of posting photos? I still can’t figure it out lol

Got skunked again, didn’t see any seal pups but these guys came about 50 yards from the shore right past me. Hung around for a few minutes then jumped around under the bridge for about a half hour. Unreal

Dudes, tomorrow I’m headed out for a backpacking trip in the North Cascades. Gonna try to hook into my first golden trout. Will report back, hopefully with photos.

Had to cancel my steelhead trip to the north umpqua this weekend. This is the third fishing trip i have had to cancel this year (Brazil, catskills, oregon). First two due to virus, this one fires. I was able to fish alot locally this spring, but overall this has been a terrible year as far as trips.

Kinda forgot about this thread but had my PB fluke a few weeks about out of Montauk. 9 lbs which isn’t a monster but still a nice fish. So much meat. Now time to focus on albies, bones and soon tog. Bass run should pick up soon too.

Lol fluke are a type of flounder. Albies and bones are smaller Pelagics in the tuna family that come into the northeast inshore waters in the late summer/fall. And tog are a type of wrasse that are pound for pound the hardest fighting dish in these waters.

I have been fishing for 35 years and never heard of bones other than referring to bonefish which are obviously not what you are talking about. What is their other name?

muchachos, tomorrow I’m headed out for a backpacking trip in the North Cascades. Gonna try to hook into my first golden trout. Will report back, hopefully with photos. Ended up not fishing. I saw no surface feeding at the two lakes I wen't to, and didn’t see any fish swimming near the shore where I would typically expect to see them. According to WA Dept of Fish & Wildlife records, they stocked this lake with golden trout in 2016, so I would expect them to be mature this year. Maybe they didn’t take. It was pretty nice there anyway.

It was pretty nice there anyway. do you only fish topwater? I'm sure you could have gotten some jigging the bottom I only brought dry fly gear, and unless goldens have drastically different habits than other trout, I think the lake might be barren. Honestly, I was way too exhausted to fish after the hike in, and summit I did on the second day. I’ve been running 20 miles a week for the past two years, and prepared for this hike with squats and deadlifts, but it absolutely leveled me. I blame some of the difficulty on barely sleeping the week leading up to it, being extremely dehydrated, and the smoke (stock photo above—the air was actually brown), which was thick on the first day, and totally oppressive on the third day. My body was done, though. By day three, my cuts weren’t healing, and I had tunnel-vision, slurring, and the shakes. I thought for sure that search-and-rescue was going to have to chopper me out of there, bringing great shame upon my family name, but somehow I pulled it together and hiked out. Tl/dr: I didn’t fish because I am a pussy.

Got a chance to get out this morning with my dad and my buddy and wen't 3/5 on Permit in Biscayne Bay with one on fly. My dad got the one on fly which was so awesome because he lost two fish earlier in the morning and lost our last live crab due to some bad luck. He’s also been fishing for 50+ years and has caught some incredible fish but this was his first Permit he’s caught on fly (on the flats). Everything else about 2020 has absolutely sucked but this year has been some of the best fishing I’ve ever seen.

I think another difference between bonito and bonita is that bonito are inedible? Like, super gross bloodline, more of a game fish.
Kings/coho are coming in hard right now. I was fishing a pier on Wednesday and saw a big mixed school Of salmon and when I was about to toss my jig out front of them to get ahead of the school some fucker next to me snaked me from way down the pier. As soon as that first jig drops the school usually scatters but it triggers some of the fish to attack, so while a bunch scattered the dickhead got a huge strike and ended up with a 14lbs king. I was fucking pissed, battle fishing is bullshit sometimes.

I have 2 other spots that no one ever goes to but theyre further down the sound (Closer to the nisqually river) and the bigger fish haven’t made their way down there yet so I figured I’d try the pier. Live and learn I suppose.

I’ve done very well mooching (banana weight, 3-5 ft leader, cut herring) and using squid jigs that I put together myself. Twitch jigs have done pretty good for me as well. It’s a lot of hurry up and wait when fishing like this. I spent 9 hrs at the pier the other day and say about 6-7 schools. It gets boring but it’s still better than being inside.

So does a lot of it just involve spotting schools? Like, are you ever casting when you don’t see fish?

When I’m on the pier it’s about 85% spotting, depending on the tide you’re between 5-15 feet above the water so you can Often see the schools from far out. Otherwise you kind of wait for the incoming tide and cast where they normal swim around. When I’m on shore I’m just blind casting. There are lots of beer and joint breaks when I’m fishing from shore haha

Bonito are supposedly delicious (never eaten one) gonna try this year If I can find some. false albacore/Bonita are considered trash fish but some people do eat them. That salmon run sounds gnarly. I get pressured spots but what you described sounds insane lol

I was just out on Long Island fishing, limited out on Weakfish which were delicious, not super big but fun to catch using squid.
