I completely disagree, Tay. I think Kawhi would be great next to LeBron. People look way too deeply into the diminished roles of Love, Bosh, and Wade. Love and Bosh saw a decrease in stats because they were formally the centerpieces on bad teams which inflated their stats, Wade just had shitty knees.
I think Kyrie’s performance in Cleveland more than proves LeBron is capable of sharing the sugar. Kyrie had his best scoring year next to Bron. Didn’t they both average 30+ in the finals in 2016?
And in all reality, what they had in Cleveland DID work. If healthy, they probably win in ‘15, they actually won in ‘16. No one could have predicted the KD move which through the entire fate of the league through a loop.

Wade won a ring in '06 as the centerpiece and the Heat were legit threats for at least part of his Miami tenure pre-LeBron. Bosh was an empty stats, bad team guy but Wade wasn't.
I just think it's silly to say guys won't wilt alongside LeBron when empirical evidence prove they do. Bosh becoming a spot-up shooter, Wade admittedly taking a backseat, Love underwhelming since leaving Minnesota and Kyrie hating his role so much he decided to request a trade..? That's pretty damning proof.

Both are obviously going to have to make sacrifices, but wouldn't you rather want to do that with the best player in the league over Russ and Melo/ LMA and an aging roster? And for Lebron, wouldn't you rather make an attempt to play with two proven stars and go into the season with at least SOME faith that you guys can make something happen in the next couple years over dragging that cavs roster back to the playoffs? Have Magic and Rob Lowe lite convince Lebron and PG to sign a 2+1 deal similar to Lebrons last contract, rent Kawhi for a year and see what happens. There's always that chance that some ring chasing Ray Allen type bitchass hops on the team on some "oh I always wanted to play in LA" shit and they wind up with another decent starter/bench piece. Worst/best case scenario, both Lebron and PG bolt after underwhelming and we get to watch the Kawhi-led lakers get bounced in the first round for the next couple years.

That's pretty damning proof. Kyrie put up like the exact same stats last year as he did with LeBron. And my post acknowledges the reason for the declines of Wade, Bosh, and Love. Love and Bosh were never true superstars in the mold of Bron, Kyrie, or Wade. The only reason they ever put up big numbers was because they were #1 options on bad teams. Love is arguably more valuable shooting 3s and rebounding at this point, does any modern NBA team want to run their offense through Kevin Love post ups? When people talk about his diminished role, what part of his game do you think he’s holding back at this juncture? Realistically. Wade had a decline in health and athleticism which is what caused him to take a step back.

The main positive of the Lakers landing big players would be they absolutely would be trading Lonzo away and we'd get to hear Lavar try to spin it.

The Lakers are on crack if they think Ingram + future first is getting a Kawhi deal done. Ainge has the Kings pick, the Memphis pick, the Clippers pick, all of their own picks, Rozier, Brown and sign-and-trade Smart as options.

The Lakers probably need to go Ingram, Ball and multiple firsts. And Pop probably laughs at Lonzo being offered.

If I was the Spurs, Jaylen Brown + Terry Rozier + Marcus Morris + Daniel Theis + '19 Kings piqq + '19 Memphis piqq is my asking price and I don't back down.
Or Horford + Rozier + '19 Kings pick for Kawhi and I make them take back Gasol's contract in the deal.

Is it smart for Boston to do anything like the above? Doesn't it amount to a year-long rental?

I only do it if Kawhi wants to stay long term, of course. Anything else is borderline hard-rocking for the Celtics.

I really like Kawhi, but I feel like it has to be hard for Boston to trust any verbal longterm commitment from him.

I don't think the Celtics offer will come anywhere close to what Magic will offer. Even if Pop wants to avoid trading him to the Lakers, at some point it becomes irresponsible to turn a trade down, especially if rumors are true about him telling them he's gonna sign in LA next year anyway.

Until these players actually sign with the Lakers I'm not going to buy this idea that players want to go there. It's a franchise where the closest thing to a direction they've had recently is "draft the PG who can't shoot as it turns into a shooter's league"

Right, but there are reports of Boston being apprehensive because Kawhi hasn't given them an indication that he would be willing to re-sign there.

Well, fuck Kawhi and fuck the Lakers.
If the Lakers get good again I'll have no choice but to root for the Warriors when they play each other in the WCF.

Can we talk about how horribly Kawhi has handled this? The dude is so guarded, stoic, and boring. He seemingly could give two shits about clearing the air. At least Kyrie was open and honest about his wants and spoke for himself.

So getting Kawhi pretty much rules out any chance of Lebron going to LA right? Or is it the other way around?

If kawhi goes to the Lakers it gives them a chance to get lebron. Without him, they have no shot
