Dude, sometimes I'll steam and then fry a few dogs, get a little kraut, get some nice hot mustard, and go to town on them with a fork. No shame. Is a hot dog defined by the type of sausage, or by the combination of sausage and roll? Because if it's the latter, when I had bratwursts in Germany served in a little roll with mustard, were those hot dogs? And if it's the former, sometimes a hot dog without a bun kicks ass.
Edit: Good hot dogs. White Eagle at a minimum. Skin on.

When I worked at Aldi, this guy who was borderline homeless told me emphatically that Aldi had the best hot dogs. He knew his facts about the composition of various brands' hot dogs, so I don't imagine he didn't know what he was talking about (and he also seemed to eat hot dogs every single day)
