No, the planet will be burnt to a crisp/flooded out AS the US shifts away from cars as the main transportation. There is no means of reducing emissions or air pollution without a significant reduction in VMT, with air pollution being arguably the more pressing and easier to solve problem. Either way, it’ll be “too late” to some extent and will not be voluntary in any sense (not that the adoption of widespread car use can be described as voluntary, either).
