The only person I can ever recall aiding in the pit is my high school friend after I swung one of those plastic Husky garbage cans at him and hit him harder than I expected. It wasn't about punk brotherhood, it was because I was scared of his mom.

Just playing devils advocate, and I know historically its not true, but in those old Donahue clips about hardcore and moshing, they really push the whole "if somebody falls, pick them back up" thing, so I can see how someone can make the misconception that its supposed to be a safe space or whatever. Or if they came from metal, because push pits are both pretty low-risk and the people are generally more uh... polite (?) about the whole thing.
But like come on. people swinging their fists indiscriminately doesn't really shout "safe." You'd think "being in the scene for 2.5 years" you'd be aware of what happens.
Of course trying to bust out your scene punch card like that is incredibly embarrassing when you consider the fact that out of those 2.5 years they've been "in the scene," shows have only been happening for half that amount of time.

What might irk me the most is the photo the person took of that elongated blood drip from their mouth. You know they waited for that shit to droop so they could play up the optics. In the that first photo there's not even a spec of blood on the mask.
