As an American I can say confidently never have I met more than like 20 people in my LIFE (other mericans)that know what soccer is further than a sport that you MAYBE play when you're 6-10 years old (as in people, stats, etc)
I'm also just a guy from the sticks so what do I know!

I love soccer. I grew up playing travel soccer my whole life and now play coed in my older days. That being said, I never had cable etc so I never grew up watching euro soccer or any of that. I go to MLS games because we have a team and those are an enjoyable chill time. I know foreign soccer is better. But fuck you all, I actually played and play the damn sport so yeah, I'm an American that lovesssss soccer lol
it's also why I can rightfully wear as many sambas as my lil heart desires. :)

there's some irony in quoting carlton leach from ICF when you're trying to distance yourself from claims of racism and whatever else. leach has argued the ICF weren't a 'racist' firm in the 70s-90s; perhaps they weren't on the level of the (chelsea) headhunters, but they were still absolutely infested with white power and far right nationalist neanderthals for long stretches of time. my dad actually stopped supporting west ham in the 80s due to how nuts it was all getting and ended up following tottenham (there's some irony in this too...). due to this betrayal 40 years ago i don't see him getting an invite to the american hardcore crew BBQ anytime soon!

To be fair I don't think anyone should have songs about soccer, and I don't think anyone should talk about hooliganism except in a mocking way. We don't make music, write books, make numerous movies etc. about 300lb dads fighting at the Chargers game so I don't know why anyone thinks it would be cool to do it for the even cornier Euro equivalent.
