I compartmentalized that and just pretended it never happened so for the next two years or so I felt very guilty I ever did that and genuinely let it go and forgot that it upset me. He was a very good boyfriend to me and changed the course of my life in every possible way and was also the first one to fuck me in the ass. I knew for all his shadiness he would never dare say this to me directly so it was kind of fine. I loved him more than he could understand, and I said I love you to him but he never said it back so I just never said it again out of discomfort. Then around two years later when the relationship started to go to shit and I was reduced to coming over to his place just to clean it up and was not even getting fucked anymore it was all I could think about. Now in hindsight the mature thing would have been to admit I did that when it happened or at least break it up when things started to go bad. But I started to become so unbelievably enraged that that wasn't enough for me, and I remembered again, and I actually saw red every time I saw those words in my head, which were becoming more and more pronounced and burned in my mind every time I thought of them. So I decided to devote myself to pretending to be the best girlfriend he'd ever had, since he clearly loved being sad about why it didn't work out with his ex-wife and only ideated on what he couldn't have. I knew he was actually sad he was turning 40 soon so I spent the next six months happily coming over just to clean up his place and make sure he's okay, bringing him thoughtful little gifts etc until breaking up with him around his birthday.

I'm sorry that you read that. I can understand the dwelling and spiteful relationship attempt. Hopefully you've been able to move on somewhat from the hurt those words inflicted.

I work at a restaurant that caters to older crowds and a lot of our staff has been there for years and is old too. Occasionally we get younger people in the kitchen but they don't last. Right now my new cook is a girl from Detroit and she's great. Terrible cook but I love her. Today she told me about the twerk contest she won and proceeded to show off her technique. This old guy standing by the register looked like the wolf in that Tex Avery cartoon. I almost had to call the warden and have him booked in.

Years and years ago, when I was just out of high school, my friends lived in a punk house with a few randos, one of whom was my best friend's coworker. Dude didn't get along with anyone and moved out after three months, but he left behind his loose-leaf prison diary, stuffed into the small cabinets built into the radiator. We found it a few months later. I don't remember much about it, except that it was riddled with racial slurs.
