Loved the documentary. There was a little discussion in here about it after it premiered.

Sounds about right I haven't been on the board in about a year.
Seeing Ward Hayden and the Outliers tonight do their Hank Sr set at a sick small venue that also serves dinner.

Finally dove into Bella White’s latest, I dig the production a lot, but might need some more time with many of the songs. Nothing is sticking yet. I really loved Just Like Leaving. Sorta wish it had this one’s production style.

Got tickets for Zach Bryan, The Saddle Tramps and just locked down Colter Wall which looks like it will sell out a fairly big venue. 2024 gonna be off to a busy start.

Had no clue Molly Tuttle was playing three blocks from my apartment tonight and it was sold out. Pain.

I would love to see Colter, would even consider flying to somewhere cool like Montana to catch him and do other shit along the way. Also about Bella White, she is going to be like Leon Bridges and release an incredible first album and then everything else will be good but will always pale in comparison. When I saw her live she actually kinda sucked at performing but whatever. She opened for Molly Tuttle and her band and they were one of the best blue grass sets I have ever seen.

Forgot all about Bella White despite having that new record on repeat for a considerable time. I do think Among Other Things was a step up from 2020's Just Like Leaving. Don't know if there's a lot of places left to go in her particular style though.

Man, the new VNE record is seriously good. Fair enough, all songs kinda sound the same but it's a good song he's repeating so fuck it.
Solid contender for AOTY.

Meanwhile I'm not all too crazy about the new IV & The Strange Band. Songs aren't awfully bad per sé... They're just not exceptionally good either. Might be a grower? Might be he's got too much competition for AOTY this year.

A dear friend of mine was talking to me while I was preparing Thanksgiving dinner about how she's been getting into country more these days and wanted to know if I liked Zach Bryan (personally not my thing but he's fine). I'm putting together a big ass playlist of recent stuff to share with plenty of my own favs but I thought I would hit up this thread to ask for favorite tracks from the past few years since the taste in here tends to skew a bit way from my own radar. In short post some recent bangers and/or tearjerkers please!

Theo Lawrence - A Dime For A Nickel Garrett T. Capps - Gettin' Better Summer Dean - Big Ol' Truck Dylan Earl - Buddy Croy & The Boys - Hate The Police Rattlesnake Milk - Midnight Train Elijah Ocean - Perfect World Margo Cilker - Lowland Trail Emily Rose & The Rounders - The Drifter Eno Aronds & The Liabilities - Bury The Bottle With Me
Should give you a start. A bit of everyting (except real poppy "bro" country). Almost all of 'em from 2023 btw.

It's been such a good year, my AOTY longlist is easily 15 records deep. Usual suspects like Colter Wall or Mapache didn't even make it to rotation this year.
Theo Lawrence - Chérie is my absolute number one. The man had one hell of a run between the full length, the EP, writing songs for Harmonica Sam and then the acoustic record that dropped today.
After that the rest of the top 5 comes in no particular order: Dean Johnson - Nothing For Me, Please VNE - Golden Crystal Kingdom Garrett T Capps - People Are Beautiful Eno Arronds & The Liabilities - s/t
Honorable mentions to Croy & The Boys, Sentimental Family Band and Emily Rose & The Rounders for dropping excellent EP's.
Got over my temporary Zach Bryan obsession. Every of his songs sounds the same once the novelty wears off.

Damn I feel attacked, wasn’t looking for criticism on my picks. Counterpoint that VNE album is a copy and paste from his last one.

Oh shit, read over your Zach Bryan pick there and I see I kinda came out swinging with that Zach remark. Didn't mean no harm! Guess the Summertime Blues EP resonated more with than the s/t did. I Remember Everything is a hell of a song though, I'll give you that.
VNE is most def more of the same but "Banks of the Old Guadalupe" just does it for me I guess, haha.
The idea of causing drama in the country thread had me sweating for a minute.

Haha never drama. Was a bit drunk and sensitive, after reading all the country end of year lists I realize I didn’t check out much at all, apparently having kid takes up a lot of time.

Glad I avoided an B9-style round of death threats and/or a beating over an online jab.
