Carrie coon is such a bad bitch lol. *heart eyes* The Leftovers was so fucking good. And she, with her incredible acting, which is entirely separate from her hotness, and not at all a reason any self-respecting consumer of one of HBO's finest original series would make that their impetus to tune in, truly rocks.

Just finished a murder at the end of the world. It rocked but it also got me thinking that the miniseries is my favorite method of storytelling. I don't have 3 hours to get through a Tarantino or Scorcese film in one sitting and I don't want to get dragged into some 8 season monolith like walking dead or breaking bad. I think my all time favorite is the night of, but I want to hear what you guys got on your lists

I think Chernobyl is objectively the best miniseries of all time. 10/10 on every very conceivable level and in every conceivable metric. Casting, acting, storytelling, sound design, cinematography. There is nothing you could possibly do to improve on it.
2) Haunting of Hill House. I think everything I said about Chernobyl applies here too and with the added fact that I've never been so scared or unnerved watching anything in my life. I've watched every horror movie anyone would cite as scary/creepy/terrifying/whatever and absolutely none of them got to me like Hill House.
3) Band of Brothers. Goes without saying.
4) The Terror. (As far as I'm concerned the second season doesn't exist and the first is stand-alone anyhow).
5) American Crime Sory: People vs. OJ Simpson. Ludicrously good casting and the fact that they were able to make a story everyone knows everything about already be that fucking riveting is wild.
Hon. mention: Queen's Gambit, Fall of the House of Usher, Squid Game, Hotel Beau Sejour.

Kind of stretching the definition of a "mini-series" but these would be my picks.
The Outsider Chernobyl Haunting of Hill House American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace (best thing Ryan Murphy has done imo) The Patient Band of Brothers Fargo (Season 2) True Detective (Season 1) Any of the first 3 seasons of Black Mirror

Station Eleven DEVS The Night Of Sharp Objects Maniac Watchmen
Definitely love some of the others already mentioned, but these needed some love.

Station Eleven DEVS The Night Of Sharp Objects Maniac Watchmen Definitely love some of the others already mentioned, but these needed some love. For sure agree on all of these but man I cannot get down with The Night Of. That pilot was incredible, wholly riveting and entrancing and then they just dropped the fucking ball. Like it was still solid, but if it had kept even 75% of the inertia from that pilot it would have been in conversation for best ever. I’m mad years later.

Yeah The Night Of started very cool and by the last couple episodes I just did not care about any of it anymore.

I really fucked with Queens Gambit during quarantine. Forgot how much that show rocked.
True detective season 1 goated.
The Terror was good, but the supernatural elements didn’t do it for me and I wish it would have been more about men vs harsh environment/nature

Just finished Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God on Max, shit was completely insane. I was already aware of them but this could have been hours longer and I still wouldn't have been bored. One of my favorite cults for sure.

except watchmen, that shit honked. alan moore hated that shit. that's neat you learned about the black wall street massacre from it but that doesn't make that bullshit good.
“When I saw the television industry awards that the ‘Watchmen’ television show had apparently won, I thought, ‘Oh, god, perhaps a large part of the public, this is what they think “Watchmen” was?’ They think that it was a dark, gritty, dystopian superhero franchise that was something to do with white supremacism,” Moore said. “Did they not understand ‘Watchmen’? ‘Watchmen’ was nearly 40 years ago and was relatively simple in comparison with a lot of my later work. What are the chances that they broadly understood anything since? This tends to make me feel less than fond of those works. They mean a bit less in my heart.”

Alan Moore hates any and all adaptations of his work. Man is a lunatic and his later work is fucking awful.

It's truly beautiful, and for those who have read the book the story isn't exactly the same, so don't hesitate to have a look.

I thought Station Eleven had a lot of promise and some great moments, plus the score was incredible, but overall it felt like a bit of a slog to get through.
I know plenty of people love it but it's pretty low on my list of recommendations.

I think watching it during peak covid was definitely part of the experience. Like I’m a total crybaby normally, but some moments hit even harder given the circumstances. I also gargle Chris Ryan and Andy Greenwald’s balls and they loved it, so there’s that. On the other side of things, Reacher remains a fun show. Just hits the spot.
