Scottie Pippens from that album is such a hard song, starting with Currensys opening line βShowing no signs of letting up, still kick you in the head like I think youβre on the verge of getting upβ to Gibbsβ incredible verse. Perfect rap song.

Perfect rap song. that post up there is why i found out covert coup was on spotify my last.fm lists 32 plays of that song since then but it's more if you count the times i just replay the gibbs verse. an all timer and one of my favorites ever still push a bucket but i ride it like a benz, ho

Kanye West produced this album that dropped today but no one is really talking about in the mainstream since they're only focused on his stupid DONDA shit. Straight College Dropout style production too.

Love the Boldy/Alchemist LP, but for me Rome Streetz/Muggs is still my LP of the year right now.

Checking out the Boldy James/Alchemist album because of this thread.
Also this is one of my students from a few years ago. I've had quite a few make music but he's easily the best.

How does board feel about NBA Youngboy? Couldn't stand him at first but for the population I teach he's easily the biggest artist of the last 10 years. He's gotten better to me over time though and has it all in terms of hooks, flow, storytelling, etc. I love it.

You all know that I don't know almost anything about current hip-hop, but I've really liked what's been coming out of South Africa and Palestine for awhile. It's some the angriest shit I've ever heard. It's not interesting to me just because of the politics or that it's "exotic" or whatever. This track from Ramallah Underground has some of the best flow I've ever heard. It's not as angry as most of the other stuff I've heard, but it's sick. They don't really have anything on Spotify, so hit youtube or download their shit here: lazyproduction-arabtunes.blogspot.com/2012/09/ramallah-underground-retrospective.htmlHere's one of my favorite South African groups, Skwatta Kamp. This is from 2003. africanclassics.bandcamp.com/track/heated-up

I keep seeing people say Lil Wayne is the greatest. Every song Iβve heard from him is garbage but Iβve never gone out of my way to listen to him. If anything I think he was the true origin of mumble rap. Post your favorite Lil Wayne songs that might change my mind because I donβt get it.

lil wayne's run from like 2005-2008 was actually pretty cool, his mixtapes during that era were a lot of fun

If anything I think he was the true origin of mumble rap. Post your favorite Lil Wayne songs that might change my mind because I donβt get it. It's because in the 2000's he put out an insane amount of solid mixtapes that still aren't up on Spotify. If you're willing to do a proper dive start with Da Drought 3 or Dedication 2 on Datpiff otherwise Tha Carter II is on Spotify and definitely his best album. Also Carter III was his most commercially successful and still has some bangers but nothing captures the magic of his output from 2005-07.

Wayne's run of Tha Carter, Tha Carter II, Dedication II, Da Drought 3 and No Ceilings is all-time incredible. From like '04-'10 that dude just ripped every beat he touched to shreds. If you weren't at a party where everyone absolutely lost their shit to Swag Surfin' we are not the same.
That said -- doesn't belong within 40 miles of any GOAT conversations. His output since No Ceilings has ranged from 'not awful but won't listen again' to 'what in the sweet blue hell is this turn it off.' That rock album he did was a direct violation of the Geneva Conventions.

Wayne has a had a good run of features this year. His verse on that shitty ass Drake record was fantastic, and I really liked his Tyler and Westside features too.
