My granddad used to claim we had Spanish blood via stranded members of the Armada because my dad has black hair. Works for me. There's a beach near my home in Galway called Silver Strand in English, which sounds very refined and dignified, but is known as Trá na gCeann in Irish, which means "beach of the heads" because it's where captured Spanish sailors that washed ashore were beheaded en masse by the English forces. I watched the 2020 final in Ireland and like it was fun, people were singing the eyetalian national anthem and all that. But there were still tables of people supporting England and somehow no fights broke out.
I guess you could say the Irish are very tolerant and forgiving.
