Night of the Hunter was fantastic! Some of the cinematography was gorgeous, reminding me a bit of German Expressionism. I wasn't crazy on the Hallmark worthy ending, but it was great otherwise.

I don’t understand the numbers on that chart. Is it a count? A ranking? Is high good or bad?

I don’t understand the numbers on that chart. Is it a count? A ranking? Is high good or bad? it's the disparity between women's rankings and men's rankings per IMDB. the women/men columns are what each title is ranked at per gender.

As for why they aren't that high, it's probably because the "best" movies are loved across the board, regardless of gender (so the overall, say, top 30 will look similar to both the male and female top 30s).

The person who tweeted it and some replying to it are looking at it as if it's an indicator of the favorite movies of the genders, which it is not.

I have nothing to add to that, except it reminds me of TBS "movies for guys who like movies" program back in the day. that era of TBS ruled.

That's what I'm saying. Like a movie that's high in the overall rankings- NOT on that chart, but in the overall top 20 - won't be that lopaoded because a good amount of both male and female viewers will like them

- - Posse from Hell (1961)
Herbert Coleman only directed two films and they were both in the same year. This Western is the better of those. The other being the alliterative WW2 film "Battle at Bloody Beach." Think of this as a kind of "High Noon" plot in that there is a rallying of townsmen to fight the titular posse. Except instead of waiting on them to come to town, they ride out in search of Vic Morrow and crew.
Audie Murphy is a little funnier here than I've seen him before - in a way that makes dads laugh. John Saxon also is in this as sort of Western dandy, and he really steals the picture in his modernity and syllable pronouncing speech
- - Also rewatched THE CROW, because of Fright Rags awesome new shirts.
A tried and true revenge exploitation film that was made iconic simply by not forgetting that its a movie, and movies like this need bells and whistles and a personality. Alex Proyas directs the hell out of this film. There is SO much to like. It is, a complete experience.

For Western Wednesdays, we watched Sam Raimi's The Quick and the Dead. It wasn't a masterpiece or anything, but it had a dynamite cast and Raimi's always enjoyable direction. Also, I'm trying to figure out what to watch for our weekly horror movie next week, and I was debating between The Changeling, The Devils, or A Tale of Two Sisters. What would yall pick? The only other Ken Russell joint I've seen is Altered States.

Definitely a really fun movie with a crazy ensemble cast.

However its barely a horror - its in the ballpark though, but more just a shocking and insane drama - a retelling of an equally insane historical event. In no way am I saying dont watch it. Just for a themed night as youre doing, it may not scratch that itch. Definitely needs to stay on the watchlist tho if you dont pick it!

Recent watches: The Lobster and Florida Project.
Really enjoyed the Lobster. Picked it on a whim scrolling through Netflix, and I’m glad I did. Wide range of emotions felt, haha.
I liked Florida Project, just not quite as much. Characters hit the right notes, and I appreciate how loose the movie felt, but at times I felt it worked against itself.

MUBI recently added Bird Talk, which is the final film written by Andrzej Zulawski. It's also directed by his son. Shit is fucking bonkers.

Damn I thought the Florida Project was perfect when I saw it but also I grew up in that area so I had bias
I don't know if this makes me a sexist pig and I have no idea how those lists were curated but the IMDB gender list for women is so fucking bad I love that for them

Check out the director's other two films that came out after The Lobster. "Killing of a Sacred Deer" is on Netflix. It's similarly absurd and perhaps even more bleak than the Lobster. A very tense film. It's also his only film shot in the U.S. (Cincinnati, Ohio) "The Favourite" is a black comedy/period drama in 18th century England, if you're into that sort've thing.
