Recent watches I got through that I enjoyed Juliet, Naked Bad Education Freaks Loved all ‘em. I very much enjoyed Juliet, Naked Chris O’Dowd does a great job playing someone who’s affable and downright insufferable from one moment to the next.

Juliet, Naked was great. Very under the radar.
Rose Byrne is indeed the hottest.

I didn't think Ken Loach could still make an effective working class drama after making them for 50 years, but Sorry We Missed You is damn good.

Yesterday's watches:
THE CONFORMIST: First Bertolucci, and was absolutely blown away. Such a vivid, beautiful movie; the cinematography 50 years later still looks unreal, I can't imagine having seen that in the early 70s. A lot of really memorable shots here, but especially the scene in the woods with the fog rolling in and then the first-person foot chase of the professor's wife. Extremely excited to dig into LAST TANGO IN PARIS, THE SPIDER'S STRATEGEM and THE LAST EMPEROR now.
HORROR HOSPITAL: Knew nothing of this going in, just grabbed by the box art scrolling through Tubi and was actually pretty damn impressed. Great looking movie, mood was solid and the performances (Michael Gough especially) were good too. Nothing to sprint to but definitely worth the 90-minute watch.

I think The Conformist is definitely a one of a kind film. Vitorio Storaro - one of the best cinematographers of all time

Makes all the sense in the world that he did APOCALYPSE NOW as well. Was looking through the rest of his work and just added THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE to the top of my list.
Came across one of those 'one gotta go' grids on the Twitters today that I think is worth discussing here. One's gotta go with one of the following actors, as in you can see none of their movies ever again:
Damon DiCaprio Cruise Hanks
I think you gotta go Cruise here? Would suck to lose the MI series, Magnolia, Eyes Wide Shut, Color of Money, A Few Good Men and some others but IDK if I could make a legit argument for booting any of the other three. Interested to see other apinions.

Cruise is my gut instinct but i don’t think Damon is an outlandish answer if we’re going straight by body of work.

Maybe not outlandish but it'd be REAL tough to explain cutting the Bourne Movies, the Oceans movies, Saving Private Ryan, Good Will Hunting, The Departed, Contagion and Rounders.

I’d go with Hanks. For me the issue is rewatchability and Hanks just isn’t in that many movies I care to rewatch over and over again. I’ve seen Forest Gump like 100 times growing up so I’d be okay never seeing that again. Cruise has so many shitty (and some not shitty) action movies that I rewatch all the time. Damon also has some good rewatchable ones. And I just prefer Leo to Tom Hanks.

I'd lose Damon. I'd get my fix from seeing the movies he was in with Hanks & Leo.

Leaning towards Tom Hanks, just because of those Dan Brown adaptations. I think the last time I was really wowed by anything he was in was probably Road to Perdition.

He's gonna be in the film adaptation of IN THE GARDEN OF BEASTS and I am beyond excited for that.
I will agree his output lately has dragged (since Captain Phillips, really) but Road to Perdition/Catch Me if You Can/Saving Private Ryan/Philadelphia is an uncuttable group of movies for me.

God damn, that is a good one.
Someone already brought it up kinda, but how do you factor in co-starring movies? If cutting Damon still means you lose Saving Private Ryan, then that makes it a little bit more difficult. I guess I'd go with Cruise, although that would be a tough pill to swallow.
Fuck, just realized it'd get rid of Edge of Tomorrow...I hate this scenario

I will never forget the first time I saw that Mummy trailer before a movie. I couldn’t believe that scream was real; holding back my confused audible laughter was simply impossible.

I’m not saying Cruise is the better actor or that his movies are better, but when was the last time you rewatched a Tom Hanks movie? I legitimately can’t think of a time in the past 10 years. I’ve rewatched 9 Cruise movies in the last 2 months and that’s not even an exaggeration.
MI 1, 4, 5, 6 Jack Reacher 1 & 2 Knight & Day Edge of Tomorrow Collateral
But I love watching bad action movies.

Oh, no way am I losing Cruise. No way am I losing Eyes Wide Shut or the first M:I. In fact, if Eyes Wide Shut and the that M:I were the ONLY two movies he EVER made, he still stays. Eyes Wide Shut just such an enigma of a movie and it always rewards rewatches. Plus Nicole Kidman, a fave, in one of her finest hours. And Mission impossible is such a great outlier for my favorite director of all time in his filmography.
So, I cut Damon. Because cutting Hanks just feels wrong to me. But I love Damon, of course, like everyone.
What’s paramount to me here is that I like Damon more as a person, and as personality, etc. But I like CRUISE more as a movie star.

I'd probably cut Hanks purely off of how much I enjoy re-watching a lot of films with the other three. Hanks has had a few good movies recently IMO with Bridge of Spies, The Post, and Toy Story 4. I think I'm in the minority with disliking Road to Perdition. It does nothing for me and felt very heavyhanded the entire time. Saving Private Ryan, Big, The Burbs, and the Toy Story series are probably the only films of his I can say I love. The rest range from bad to alright.

Interesting to me that only one person has either vouched for or gotten rid of Leo.

Rob Schneider Chris Kattan Kevin James Josh Gad

Interesting to me that only one person has either vouched for or gotten rid of Leo. Leo has way too many rewatchable movies for me to even consider him. I'd even rewatch his season of Growing Pains. He's the obvious marry. Upon further reflection, I have to go with Hanks. Like Ben said, it just feels weird saying, but in all honesty his discography actually has less personal bangers all told.

Judge Dredd, Necessary Roughness, Sandler flicks, Surf Ninjas, Martians Go Home In a surprising 2nd place, is Chris Kattan. Night at Roxbury, and an outlier with a horror movie, House on Haunted Hill.

That's such a random list of people but I think I would go with Leo
The only ones of his I'd really miss would be Gilbert Grape and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He's good in Shutter Island too but the rewatchability factor of that one is low for me.
Early Tom Cruise (Rain Man, Born on the Fourth of July, A Few Good Men, etc) may be a better stretch than any of the others had, and I say that as someone who doesn't care at all about his action movie career and am annoyed by him personally.

I wen't to the Drive-In theater last night for a double feature of Beetlejuice and Pee Wee's Big Adventure. It was a great way to watch a movie on the big screen for the first time in 4 months. Both films are absolutely delightful and two of my all time favorites. It is truly insane to me how good of a run of movies Tim Burton had from 1985 to 1994 (or 'depending on how you feel about Mars Attacks), only to truly lose his touch and continuously shit the bed shortly afterwards. Even his short films Vincent and Frankenweenie are fantastic. From favorite to least favorite of his early work, I'd go..
Ed Wood Beetlejuice Pee Wee's Big Adventure Edward Scissorhands Batman Returns Batman Mars Attacks
What about yall?
