Those are objectively great movies that even non-musical people can appreciate. Once you get into the weeds, no thanks. Theater nerds are pretty insufferable.Β I stage managed a few plays and I really fucking hate actors!!!

dawg you must be in my head. I was gonna post that Cabaret and Chicago were the only musicals I fucked with for a long time but ive since grown to like more. Only thing I dont like about Chicago is Richard Gere's song because he sounds goofy when he sings. Catherine Zeta-Jones is so sexy in that

(some musicals is ok)
Moulin Rouge is Baz's best work IMO. Ewan and Leguizamo go undeniably hard and the material actually fits his style for the entire runtime (unlike basically everything he's done since).

I think it's for anyone who can appreciate a good character study. So, men. Lol mostly I'm sure. But you raise a good question: what are some solid female character studies in film? It's been a minute but I remember feeling like The Hours offered something profound as far as female character studies go. Nicole Kidman was in the zone there fr.

Do you think women can ever truly appreciate Heat or is it strictly for us fellas? I think it's for anyone who can appreciate a good character study. Well yeah, but there is something inherently masculine about the drive of the characters that I think men understand at a different level. Obviously its based on a specific construct of masculinity, but for men brought up in that milieu (ie, mid/late 20th century), the actions of the characters can be understood at a more personal level of expectations, fatherhood, duty, etc. Maybe there just needs to be a remake with Melissa McCarthy for the ladies
