Nothing unexpected but Goddammit France, the National Front are now going to be the biggest party in the parliament.
The president of the French Communist Party has lost his seat, one held by the PCF since the 60s.

Is La France Insoumise further left than the communist party? I thought it was more center-left?
I see the Macron folk telling people to vote communist over La France Insoumise.

Is La France Insoumise further left than the communist party? I thought it was more center-left? I see the Macron folk telling people to vote communist over La France Insoumise. It kinda depends on who you ask, as with all these things. The PCF hasn't been an orthodox communist party since the 70s, and some would say even before that. In effect the PCF is a left-socdem party with deep roots in the trade unions. LFI is essentially the PCF without the institutional heritage. They're a left deviation of the Socialist Party who are have no real raison d'être outside of Mélenchon who is their centre of gravity, and an enormous pain in the ass. In my biased but ultimately correct view, they are ideologically synonymous and they both frustrate me very much.

For my part I've been a member of the PCF for like 10 years and I hate them so much.

Honestly America may be very racist but it still somehow has nothing on how the average European moderate will talk about Roma/gypsies or Muslim refugees.

The best possible move for the DNC to salvage this disaster at the moment would be for Biden to just voluntarily step aside. But the problem is that Harris is so bloodthirsty for the chance of being president that I don't actually see the DNC pushing forward another candidate, and I don't think the base of people who already lost confidence in Biden would give a shit about her being president instead. There is a devoted base of old liberal women who would vote just to get a Black Woman President (TM) but I imagine they were already gonna vote for Biden despite this all anyway.

www.vox.com/politics/357955/biden-age-democrats-nominee-kamala-harris“Biden’s choice of Kamala Harris in 2020 was even more misguided. When he made that choice in August 2020, there was little basis for believing that Harris was one of the most politically formidable Democrats in the country. Harris had just mounted an exceptionally lackluster bid for the presidency. Then a California senator, Harris had entered the race for the Democratic nomination with strong donor support and an early surge in the polls. Despite these early advantages, Harris failed to maintain — let alone build out — her coalition over the ensuing months, and her campaign collapsed before the primary’s first ballots were cast. Nor was Harris’s electoral track record before 2020 especially encouraging. She had never won an election in a swing state or competitive district. And in her first statewide race in deep blue California in 2010, Harris defeated her Republican rival by less than 1 percentage point. Two years earlier, Barack Obama had won that state by more than 23 points. Given that Biden was 77 in August 2020, the likelihood that his running-mate would one day become his party’s standard-bearer was unusually high. It was entirely plausible that health problems would force him to retire before the end of his first term, let alone his second. And were Harris to become an incumbent president, no other Democrat would stand a chance of defeating her in a contested primary. For these reasons, Biden’s primary consideration in choosing a running-mate should have been his or her electability. Instead, he put enormous weight on demographic considerations. “I think he came to the conclusion that he should pick a Black woman,” former Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told the New York Times in the summer of 2020. “They are our most loyal voters and I think that the Black women of America deserved a Black vice-presidential candidate.” Without question, it is desirable for a vice presidential candidate to energize the Democratic Party’s most loyal constituencies. That is one dimension of electability. But it is not obvious that Harris actually possessed that capability; after all, her 2020 campaign resonated so little with Black voters in South Carolina that she was forced to withdraw before that state’s primary.”

I think the National Rally would gladly try to privatize all those things if they were not in a country where setting cars on fire is practically a national sport.

Legit hate when mfers in the UK or Canada are like “we’ve got our own bad government too!” like shut the fuck up our choices are a senile corpse and a hard-rocking fascist and our two parties oscillate between knowing nothing and doing nothing while collecting sound bytes to please the culture war narrative and gutting every social protection in the name of corporate interests.

Eurofascists like the RN or whatever are just the scary wing of neoliberalism who will absolutely carry on the general project of the current ruling paradigm. They'll sell everything the public owns up the river the first chance they get.
