College football irritates me so much when these power house schools like Ohio State, Alabama and Notre Dame are basically playing nobody's the first couple weeks. Committee needs to start judging on strength of schedule like they do in CBB.

Absolutely consider S.O.S for Notre Dame. Big 10 and SEC teams play tough enough schedules in conference--Alabama is playing 4 top 15 teams in the next 6 weeks and included a Big 10 team in their non-conference schedule. Don't really feel great about defending them but that body of evidence is there.

yes, i hate sitting through a month of CFB without tOSU playing a meaningful game.

BUT this seasons was also one of the years UW and tOSU were supposed to have an OOC home and home.



"Washington's home-and-home football series vs. Ohio State, scheduled for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, has been canceled, as the Buckeyes have informed UW they will no longer be playing the games. OSU has acknowledged it will abide by the terms of the contract, including any liquidated damages."


i assume this was cancelled due to UW joining the b1g.


tOSU has home and home's with texas 25/26, then bama 27/28, then UGA 30/31.

with the playoff expansion it will be interesting to see if this type of home and home scheduling occurs.  there really isn't any benefit imo.  if you finish top two in either the b1g or sec, you're making the playoff.

I understand all those variables and such. But its absurd a 4 loss season is CFB is considered a failure. These teams should still have to play other tough teams and then strength of schedule analysis can be run for post season seeding. At the next level no week is a cake walk so it seems so counter productive to play so many bad teams.

I mean I don’t think I understand the logic here. For independent teams, absolutely. As fun as it is to watch ND get destroyed, Manti T’eo’s fake girlfriend was more interesting than the championship game that year.

But you can’t act like the SEC and the Big10 aren’t gauntlets when it comes to conference scheduling. I mean what’s the alternative? Who are the teams that are scheduling challenging non-conference opponents week in and week out?

Compared to what you face week to week in the NFL it's not a gauntlet though it just facing comparative competition. Losing 3-4 games against good teams should be more acceptable than beating a Sun Belt or CUSA team by 55 in all of your non conf games.

Part of it is that these smaller schools get paid by the bigger schools to play them and the athletic department needs that money.

I get that too. I'm not opposed to opening on a push over game, but when it comes to week 3-4 it's come on now I wanna see these teams play a real game.

the only way you're getting a better inventory of games is the expansion of super conferences and taking away the third OOC game. i don't want that.

requiring a september conference game would be fine with me. but that also just leads to chickenshit saturday before rivalry week. (see: sec's november 16th schedule).
