Where is your conference taking place? A single room in a hostel, or something like either a Ibis or local hotel might be your best choice if you’re looking for cheap. It's at Sorbonne, so relatively central? I don't know anything about Paris, so i'm all ears. Nice, the university is in the 5th arrondissement so yeah it’s pretty central. It’s actually a good place to be, it’s a bit more on the fancy and touristy side but without being overboard, if you find a cheap hotel or hostel in the area I would definitely recommend it. The 6th arr. is a lot more fancy and upscale though, just so you know. If you check out the travel thread I posted a bunch of recommendations for things to do in Paris back in March I think, otherwise I’ll give you a couple extra as well.

Who's going to the Shark Attack London show in September? Pretty tempted. I’m going to see judge in Germany 😭 I booked shit before this was announced and I’m bummed out

I'll check the travel thread but if you have anything else to suggest, please feel free. I'm super interested in colonial history, so anything you have to throw that way, i'd be stoked.
And M, I think I'll be at the Shark Attack show, as well as maybe Sunday of Chimpy fest, i'd like to see dropdead but not sure it's worth it but Despise you is one of my favorite bands. Also that fest in November (with Ekulu and Big Cheese) looks dope! I'll be in London again from September 1 until 30 Nov. maybe we can meet up this time? (or anyone in the UK)

There is a shit ton of cool stuff happening in November so that’s sick that you are here. You should also fly out to sound of revolution in Eindhoven as the flights are currently something stupid like £20

Yeah, November seems to be working up to be a cool month from what I can tell. While I'd love to see the Last Resort (they still play?), i'm going to the Phoebe Bridgers and American Football show that weekend.

I'm thinking maybe the Quay Branly museum would be up your alley then?
It has different collections about indigenous cultures from all over the world (Africa, Oceania, ...). It's in a new location now that I haven't been too, but I used to love visiting the old one as a kid.
And then there's an Immigration History museum which overlaps with colonial history:
I haven't been to that one in a long time as well, but just the architecture itself is worth checking out. Both museums are fairly easily accessible by metro or bus.

Hijacking thread to talk Brexit. I’ve tried to buy a pair of headphones and bike parts recently but both websites no longer ship to UK. We all knew it would but it’s already looking like a pain in the arse.
Creative visa is a joke. I know bands sneak in but tighter border is going to affect that too right?

Its honestly embarrassing to be part of the UK at the moment and honestly, im legit scared England will end up being this shitty little country that noone cares about after Wales and Scotland and NI get their independence from us.
EMBARRASSING.

EMBARRASSING. Sadly independence will never be on the cards for us. Only a matter of time for a united Ireland and independent Scotland though. You see the video of the Dutch taking sandwiches away from ‘brits’ at the border? Incredible stuff.

I am not going away any time soon but i feel like its going to be a pain in the arse when i can finally go anywhere. Its so infuriating. I had an argument with someone at work after Brexit because she said she voted for it. I asked her what her reasons were and she couldnt give me a proper reason. I just shrugged and said "is it because of immigrants because here, where you work, there are a lot of children of immigrants and immigrants here" and she HATED that and flew off the handle.

FYI to any Brits, you're able to live and work in Ireland without a visa. We've got no NHS and the government is still incompetent, but still not as bad.

The Tories know they are despised by most in the arts. Has to be the reason for the visa, fuck everything up for anyone outside of their magic money circle. The days of importing stuff are truly over in the UK too. I've been stung a fair few times buying shit from America and Japan over the years but the hassle of importing from the EU will pretty much put most hobbies to bed. Off to play with a tyre and stick.

I don't really know the ins and outs of it all but there seems to be a lot of discussion about shows taking a DIY approach of sharing equipment and printing merch in the UK for visiting bands, and the same in Europe for UK bands and travelling as tourists? It's a shitty situation but I'm trying to stay optimistic (about creative visas and the like anyway). Every other day I'm seeing new stories about people getting fucked by imports and exports from UK, I don't know what some people expected to come from Brexit.

being stuck in the UK for over a year has driven home how much i dislike this stupid island I am autisticly obsessed with UK history and older culture, but modern young UK culture is so disappointing. Politically issa joke, the left are socialists, the tories are leftists who like murdering foxes, and britain first crowd are just racist leftists. There is no trace of libertarianism, no notion of small gov/freedom, the tories take the worst aspects of populist republicans and subtract gun rights/privitized medical/protecting the borders/low taxes. Brexit was a good start but they need much more than that. The love of soccer is so weird, how can you watch such a boring sport for more than five minutes? The stupid chanting songs people sing while im trying to eat at a pub gets old really quick. Cricket/Rugby are just a gày form of baseball/football as well, why do the cricket people wear so many pads? I just want to have sex with a yummy mummy and see castles and shit, my english residence is in the countryside and I only go into town to avoid having to shop in the tiny Tesco Express nearby. Noone cares what you think.

A bunch of my friends are going but I don’t think I will, plus there’s of course some good stuff on the line-up but also too many mid or core-adjacent bands for my taste.
