Finished the overhaul of my bike just in time for work shutting down, the weather getting nicer and the government dictating we should stay home yet do lots of solo sports. By the time this whole "lockdown light" is over, I'll be in the best shape of my life.

By the time this whole "lockdown light" is over, I'll be in the best shape of my life. Been doing the whole social distancing thing for years on solo rides. Now I just don't stop in convenience stores as much, but business as usual. The roads being quiet as they have been has been one upside.

There being almost zero change of having to stop at intersections is doing wonders for my average speed, I'll tell you that. I do kind of miss the bakery stop at long rides though.

Sean Burns cracked his spine a month and a half ago. Fucked up. He's supposed to be able to walk again though.

Are those MAVIC MA40's or GP4's in the front? Everything I see a vintage bike I like it seems they're running GP4's... I ain't got the time for tubulars...

I bought a used tubular wheelset for my cross bike, this is my first time running them and they’re honestly a huge pain in the ass

Wish the roads would stay this quiet forever. Picked this up towards the end of last season. Still haven’t got round to trimming the steerer tube so ignore the spacers.

Got a road bike a couple of years ago off of Craigslist. Has been sitting collecting dust and both tires were deflated. Took it to local bike shop and got the tires pumped up the other day. Also had the muchacho show me how to use my bike pump (lol). Rode twice yesterday. Short ride first thing in the morning and once in the evening. Maybe just 12 miles total (lots of ups and downs in my neighborhood). Felt good though. Legs and ass sore today.

Just go to Walmart or wherever and pay the $10 or $15 to own one.

I've been trying to break deeper into cycling recently, been doing 8-10 miles a night/5 nights a week since July. I feel great, and the lactic acid buildup isn't too big of an issue now. I've been doing it primarily to shed pandemic weight, supplemented by at-home workout, meal prep and cutting calories (high protein, low fat, low carbs, no sugar) and I've been able to lose just under 16 pounds since late July. I'm slated to approach my usual 175-180 pound territory before late October but I'll probably keep cycling a few nights per week just to maintain.
I think it would be cool to get into road bike racing or something, although I'm such a novice I wouldn't even know where to begin.

You can easily find a road bike in your size on Craigslist for a couple hundred, I’d def recommend it
Been getting back into cycling and put some decent mileage in this past week at the beach, 2 x 60 mile rides from Rehoboth to Ocean City and a couple 20 milers in between. The sand fucking wrecked my bike

Picked up a indoor trainer wheel for my bike this week because I'm a coward that won't ride in the winter. Plus (if they're open at all) I ain't setting foot in a gym right now. Tried it out last night. It's a little weird at first, but I think I'll get used to it.

Bought a Trek FX1, my first real bike, and I absolutely love it. Finally hit 20 miles in a single ride a couple weeks ago.
I have become obsessed with the perfect saddle height which has inevitably led to me having anxiety about any little discomfort when riding. Other than that, I have so much fun riding.

Lorm -- I'd suggest going out for some longer rides, maybe on the weekend. I go at 5 AM and there usually very little traffic and you get the benefit of daylight at the end of the ride. I was riding a 1978 Fuji Touring bike for the past year, but I started doing 20+ mile rides on the weekend and it got uncomfortable. I finally splurged and bought a new gravel bike (REI Co-op ADV 2.1) last month and it's been amazing. So much better -- smoother ride, more comfortable. It's also been fun taking the bike off-road. It's practically a mountain bike that looks/rides like a road bike. The most I've ridden in a single ride is 36 miles, but I'm trying to get up to 55 miles before the season ends. Even then, I'd like to continue riding through the winter, I just need some better clothing to handle the cold. Anybody have any suggestions on what to wear when it starts getting below 50? Pics from my last ride:

Gravel bikes are tight, if I didn’t already have a cyclocross and 2 road bikes I’d def get one to mess around on, I’m maxed out for storage space
For the winter: layer, layer, layer
I usually rock tights, top and bottom under shorts and a long sleeve running shirt. Depending on if it’s windy/raining/snowing I have a goretex cycling jacket I’ll wear and if it’s super cold I’ll wear a soft shell underneath that. Neoprene gloves, wool socks and weather depending neoprene booties to go over my shoes. A face mask is crucial, and I don’t rock them but I have a buddy in Minneapolis who rides year round that wears goggles bc the cold will make you tear up
You don’t want to be toasty warm when you first start out, you generate a lot of core heat cycling and ending up sweating buckets when it’s 30 out and you’re 25 miles from home is dangerous
I did a 20 mile daily commute for 3 years except when it got so cold my water bottle froze with that set up and it always worked good for me

I have become obsessed with the perfect saddle height which has inevitably led to me having anxiety about any little discomfort when riding. Exactly what Merckx did and he turned out fine. Anybody have any suggestions on what to wear when it starts getting below 50? Once it gets between 10°C and the freezing point I start wearing Le Col thermal tights, an undershirt, a jersey and a windstopper jacket. Top that of with gloves, something in my neck and a pair of uniqlo heat tech socks. That set up usually keeps my warm yet cool enough for 100km rides deep down in December and January. Don't overdress if it ain't freezing is what I would suggest. Sweating is a disaster if it's cold out. Cool to see everyone hyped on the bike. Tomorrow morning I'll be turning the corner on 8000km ridden this year, which puts my comfortably close for my 10k goal. Tuning up my 80's Alan cyclocross bike for a big gravelride over the weekend too. Cycling fucking rules.

Thanks for the tips, Chaospouch and Novogue. I've gotten used to riding with a backpack, so maybe i'll bring that on the cold days in case I do overheat.
Cycling does, in fact, rule.

Had the new Kickr delivered yesterday. I used to think I was Roger De Vlaeminck during winter but I’m never going outside again.

No joke, thinking about De Vlaeminck or Andy Hampsten has gotten me through some utterly miserable winter rides. I used to feel so hard riding through pouring rain and headwinds for hours on end but I'm glad those delusions are over.

The delusions of a cyclist eh? I once forgot to grab my gloves on an 80km, the temperature then dropped to just below freezing. Thinking of Hinault at Liège–Bastogne–Liège was the only reason I didn’t ring my missus. I couldn’t even reach the levers by the time I got home, felt so stupid afterward.

I ride outside in all conditions, all I do indoors is some warming up/recovery riding on the rollers. Never used Zwift so I can't form a fair apinion but it seems kinda miserable. Dripping sweat all over the place while staring at a screen.
The tour has me all hyped up thanks to my man Wout Van Aert being an absolute madman. Hoping Roglic takes home the yellow but today's stage might flip the board completely. Whoever ends up leading the GC, I'm glad Ineos has taken a beating. LThat said, I'm even more hyped for the world champs and the double of Ronde/Roubaix. I can see Campenaerts winning the TT after all those second places.

The condensed season is going to be epic. I like Roglic but hoping Pogacar does him this week, he’s been so excited to watch.
Counting down for the classics, think they’re gonna be crazy in Autumn conditions.
