Not to be a blood (or better yet, rain) thirsty cultist but Paris-Roubaix is going to be insane. We're gonna see some outsiders do well. Look at Pedersen taking the tie dye jersey last year. I'm hoping our boy Van Aert does it.

Anyone here ride fixed / singlespeeds? I had a few awesome fixed gear bikes couple years back but had to give them up because of my stupid knees and living situation. I’ve missed them so much lately and luckily found a 2015 fuji classic track from a local two weeks ago. Keeping this one singlespeed and still got to put it together but I can’t wait to get back in the saddle.

If I wasn't riding cross, I rode fixies throughout winter. Less maintenance or components that could suffer salty roads and all that. I've got a homebrew fixie I'm looking to sell but I might build up an actual track bike somewhere along the line. They're fun to ride.

As awful as it is, I’m also doing a rain dance. I’m assuming you’re Belgian? Gonna be a fun decade for you with Van Aert and Remco.

I exclusively ride single-speed bikes (20”&24” bmx), but I’ve only ridden a fixie once. It was fun, would try again

Exactly, a fixed gear track bike is the epitome of a fun ride to me. Mash was by far the most fun but I'm forever bummed to have parted ways with my sparkly red NJS baby. Can't believe I rode 200km with that god awful setup and a huge messenger bag and actually made it haha, good times indeed.

Yeah, it's finally looking up again for us. Not to discredit hardworking muchachos like Van Avermaet, Degendt or Lampaert but it's been a good long while since we had guys slugging out wins the way Van Aert or Evenepoel have. Not a big Evenepoel-fan but the kid does have buckets of talent.
Seeing Van Aert and van der Poel turn up to the velodrome together would have me losing my mind. De Vlaeminck would probably have a heart attack as well. I wouldn't mind Sep Vanmarcke winning either de Ronde or Roubaix either. It'd make for one hell of an emotional moment with good soundbites by the dozen.

Have any of ever dealt with, or currently deal with, "cyclists palsy" symptoms? I'm dealing with it big time these past couple weeks. I've been experiencing numbness, loss of grip strength and just an overall lack of fine motor skills with grabbing things, typing, opening things, etc. I end up pinching my ulnar nerve against the table while stuck on long Zoom calls for work and class, and I was convinced that was the culprit. Unfortunately this loss of fine motor skills and grip strength only seemed to start when I began doing the 8-10 miles per night 5 nights a week shit, so I dunno.

Riding too much into the drops, on thin plastic "benotto" bartape without gloves was the evildoer. Started wearing gloves with some padding the palms whilst switching hand positions every now and then and that seemed to fix it.

Not quite as bad as you're describing, but I still have some numbness in my pinky/ring fingers. When I got my new ride, it had better tape and I switch positions more frequently as novogue mentioned. It's definitely better, but still there. Maybe the gloves will be the key. Anyone have an apinion when to use the drops? I thought I should be using them all the time, but I'm seeing footage of pros and it seems like they use them sparingly. Does it matter at all, or more a means of preference?

I just got my first mountain bike this year and am loving it.
Got an older Specialized Demo 8 off my friend, I know little about bikes but it's a bit of a dinosaur from what I gather. Still served me well at the Whistler and SilverStar bike parks though! I definitely got claimed a few times but am getting the hang of it.

Had the new Kickr delivered yesterday. I used to think I was Roger De Vlaeminck during winter but I’m never going outside again. How are you using it? I have the first model and it's still awesome. I use it on Zwift and my Garmin can control it. I load rides I've done outdoors and it will adjust the difficulty when simulating the climbs. Zwift is super fun, but I don't care about the social aspect of it. Plus they raised their prices, so I pause my o-count. Probably going to start it back up next month though. I’ve only ever used rollers to keep the legs spinning. I’m waiting for my free trials to come through but I don’t think Zwift is for me. I’m gonna use it for efforts and training so think I might get on with Trainerroad more.

I’d check the saddle height and handlebar position too. Could be causing too much weight through the hands. They use the drops almost exclusively except for climbing. Just use what you feel more comfortable with, lower you are the more efficient you’ll be though.

Anyone have an apinion when to use the drops? Always, full gass, full aero, all the time. Nah, I'm kidding. I don't know, I think it's personal preference. With my long arms I can sit down the drops comfortably for basically an entire 100k ride if I wanted to. Most people I see on the road are riding on the hoods though. There's been an insane amount of dudes riding tri-bars round here as well lately.

I've never been able to ride comfortably in the drops, I gave up years ago and embraced the mustache bar life. Needless to say I'm not riding for speed.

Just put the finishing touches on my '89 Alan, doing a big gravel ride on saturday. I'm thinking about selling it off and buying a modern machine but we'll see.

6' on the dot. It's a frame size 58x57, picture might've warped the proportions.

That's a nice ride though, I love the way steel looks but prefer aluminum. Anyone rockin a full carbon setup? I have a carbon fork on my cross bike and always feel sketched out with it

I'll take steel over that flexible old aluminium any day of the week. My cousin swears by all carbon everything but I can't vouch for it myself, I prefer steel.

I'm the other way. Finding a small frame with proper top tube length for my midget ass was very difficult. Ended up getting a custom frame for a perfect fit. Highly recommended if you can swing it and standard frames just don't fit right. I lucked out and scored a Primus Mootry cx frame that was custom made for a guy with similar proportions to myself, only downside is it's single speed I'm currently saving money for a house, but man do I really want to drop some cash on a new road bike

I hear that. My current strategy is waiting for all the people that impulse bought expensive bikes back in March or april to flood the resale/second hand market. Hoping for some bargains out of dudes that thought they were gonna get in shape during lockdown but gave up the second the bars reopened.

I’m gonna use it for efforts and training so think I might get on with Trainerroad more. I get bored too easy on the trainer so Zwift lets me ride an hour or so without going crazy. I have a dumb trainer as well and used to do Spinervals and Sufferfest videos all the time. I tried TrainerRoad and it was just too boring for me without a video counterpart. It just seemed like interval training for $20/month which I didn't get. Zwift does have workouts similar to TrainerRoads, its just not riding around the courses. You can even build your own workouts. It's worth trying the free trial though and its cheaper than TR. Yeah man I’m gonna give them all a go; 30 Days FREE of Zwift 30 Days FREE of TrainerRoad 30 Days FREE of Fulgaz 30 Days FREE of Rouvy 60 Days + 14 Days FREE of Sufferfest. Good amount of time there to get a full idea of what I want. I’ve been finding it hard to get out with a kid and my second is on the way in November. Hoping to get a few ‘empty the tank’ sessions A week in on it.

My Orbea is fully carbon apart from the wheels. The thought of carbon wheels on Welsh roads frightens me.
My next bike will be custom steel though. There is a framebuilder near me that makes beautiful bikes.

Looking for a “Hardtail mountain bike, 27.5 or 29’er” (the words of my partner, a cyclist). Any good places to find them? She’s been looking for me but said to ask around too. I’m not good at any of this, I am just addicted to riding in the woods and want to die hitting a jump.
