you spent how much repairing your barbour? Yeah. It hurt…but it’s been with me for a decade and has so many memories attached that it’s become really sentimental. I’m definitely one of those people who gets really attached to their Barbour like it’s an extension of them. Maybe it’s cause of the ritual of caring for it, or that it’s kinda like driving a vintage car - totally obsolete by any metric for a coat but those quirks are part of the charm. To be fair to the coat, the game pocket has made me 5x what it cost to repair by stuffing it full of stolen abandoned building treasure that was then sold for cash.

Those guys are, as I recall, more expensive than Barbour directly. I have a bunch of different barbours, and needed to have some work done to a longshoreman(the pullover smock) that Barbour wouldn’t do. They were willing to do it as well as the modifications I wanted done, but the modifications were really expensive iirc. I ended up bathing it in oxyclean to get the smell out and then just had Barbour do the modifications. Just for context, my coat had a lot of work done to it. It’s also a Beaufort, but it’s a 1991 serial number and had definitely never been repaired when I got it so it had a couple holes from thorns as I don’t think it had ever been rewaxed. I wear my coat really hard, through the woods, while working, it comes into our coal mine with me, and I wear it as a winter jacket with a liner. After 5-6yrs with me it had holes all over, and a couple big rips. It needed a *lot* of work. One sleeve needed an entire new half + a cuff and patch and the other needed a new armpit and a couple patches, the back needed an 8”x8” patch, the front needed a new top half on both sides, and one side needed the bottom 1/3 replaced so the pockets had to be transferred over to the new panel. It’s not like I got only minor stuff fixed, and it was also so raggedy I couldn’t wear it any more. It was basically fix it or buy a brand new one, the cost was the same either way. My mother at the time needed some minor repairs done to her 40yr old bedale, and her bill was like 160-200 with a waxing. I think she got a handful of small pinhole patches, and either the cuffs lengthened or repaired. So as long as yours doesn’t need crazy work, it’s not that bad. Shouldn’t be more than a solid used one would be. You could also DIY it and try to find the og Barbour patch kit that has fabric, or buy some waxed fabric and see if a tailor can do the work for you

yeah I have ebay alerts set up for the J Crew x Barbour barn jacket from several years ago. I already have one that's mostly fine but it's tight in the shoulders so need to size up for the long run. really really love that thing.

Just been mainly wearing Patagonia 5" baggies with Mers white tees and J. Crew Irish linen button ups. Recently splurged on some more expensive items since I got accepted into Business school...bought a pair of Stoffa ivory shorts and a Casatlantic Agafay button up. I am really close to buying a pair of Lemaire trousers but my wife might murder me if she doesn't get to buy her Row bag soon.

I tried so many different methods, including baking it in the sun for days to see if the UV would kill the mold or whatever. The only thing I didn’t try was sticking in into a box with an ozone generator. Only thing you wanna be careful of is that Barbour says washing a coat will remove the teflon coating on the back of the fabric and allow the wax the bleed to the liner. I’m pretty sure that’s an issue with machine washing, not so much with getting wet. I just ran a lukewarm bath, stirred in some oxyclean, and let it soak for a couple hours. Worked great, but the water was vile ![](https://i.imgur.com/gZjJS8O.jpeg)

my girlfriend found a really nice old Levis faded black jacket for me a few years ago and I don't even want to know what it would look like if I gave it a soak in oxyclean.
Anyhow, I need to get some linen shirts and some lighter chinos or something. It's fuckin hot.

Nah, I mean the water. I've never had much trouble with fading when oxycleaning anything that's pretty durable (old heavier weight cotton shirts or denim)

Fashion idea: summer appropriate Barbour coats so that Barbour gang doesn’t have a summer recess. After dropping 450-500 repairing mine a couple summers ago, it hurts not wearing it year round, especially since it already needs more repairs. Its well on its way to prince charles level patchwork ![](http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K4i07gCiy_M/UMs-fRNGEpI/AAAAAAAAD-E/d8UK3uIeT4A/s640/prince+charles+Barbour.jpg) Post some pics of this if you got it. I love well worn clothing.

Throughout the winter I’ll touch it up with one of those bars of otter wax if needed. The collar/shoulders and around the bottom seem to want touching up more frequently. Those bars are great for touching up seams too. I wouldn’t wanna do a whole jacket with them though, they seem way less economical than a tin of wax and you still have to use a hair dryer once applied.

I spent a fuckton getting my 10+ Barbour patched up last summer and a few months later I had a bunch of new tears and holes to the point that it's embarrassing to wear.
I'm between buying a new one or just continuing to pour money into it. Maybe both if I can swing it...

Are they that easy to tear? Pretty much why I gave up any sort of technical clothing, my arcs and TNFs never really held up to what I threw at them. wen't back to just wearing old denim jackets and crewnecks, cheap, affective and easy to repair DIY without spending $500. I got a sick suede and mystery fur ranch coat last year but it needs dry cleaned. Reeks of cold cigarettes beer and gods know what else.

I might just be hard-rocking but I've never had much success with Rit dyeing clothes and not having them get dye everywhere for basically the entire life of the garment afterwards. ![](https://www.ritdye.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/17247_159_Tif-1-scaled.jpg) I bought some of these kits a while back to dye some of my black clothes and followed the instructions to the T, used very hot water with salt and vinegar, made sure to use dye fixative, always washed them with other blacks in cold water etc and a year later there are still shirts and tank tops I wear that actually make my skin black underneath when I wear them. I could not imagine trying to re-dye jeans or a jacket and having them stain a sofa afterward. What the fuck am I doing wrong?

my Filson, stone islaned, and arc'teryx gear has held up just fine over the years, but I've had issues with cp company, norse projects, and patagonia gear so I generally don't buy from them.

Norse Projects is great for just casual wearing around cold ass cities but actual outdoors shit... no way. Same with CP Company. Hell even their rain jackets and shit are pretty meh quality wise IMO.
