scowl isn't an industry plant in the sense that they do have actual ties to the community but i have never seen a hardcore band say yes to corporations more at the cadence and volume that they have. a lot of bands / labels / promoters have worked with pbr, only one band did a promo photo shoot for pbr. Agreed, which is why discussion goes better here when people form their own apinions and don't just make this r/hardcore for curmudgeons. It's bizarre how many people who don't even really care about hardcore anymore camp out in this thread to rage about articles that really no one else but them reads oh my god shut up

what happens next is they'll either release music that actually lives up to this generated hype or they'll just get booked in venues they can't fill until their fans and management give up and move on

Remember when Hoods and other old head bands had merch that was like "EMO KILLER" and shit like that? That's sort of how this discussion feels to me. Ultimately none of this will matter in like five years, and all the consternation will just look corny.

Scowl isn't an "industry plant" band. What they did is use their own goodwill from the tight-knit nature of hardcore to move out of it and seek wider appeal; but that's not what "industry plant" has ever meant. Everyone speaks in canned regurgitated slogans they found on hardcore twitter, the birthplace of internet braindead slogans. The first two Scowl EPs are still good either way. I saw Zulu last night and they have great crowd energy and the kids sincerely fucking love them. I wasn't that moved by their record but then felt different once I saw them live, which I've done with dozens of bands. Hardcore is more fun when you go to shows and don't notice whether or not bands are name-dropped by some bug person getting paid $150 to write an article for Pitchfork. I'm going to go out on a limb and say most people on board do not base their apinion off of pitchfork, twtter, or articles or the internet. A lot of us are the age where we had to go to hardcore shows to find out about hardcore. Decades of shows.

Thatβs been happening for at least a few years now Hard R hardcore has been back but it's a little tongue in cheek. Not one of those crop of bands has killed an emo in cold blood and it shows.

Anointed kinda sucks but isn't always the worst. This individual appears to be the worst all the time. With March quickly approaching, we should set up a poster vs poster March madnessesque tournament to see who the best poster is
