MyScene was Mattel's attempt to rebrand Barbie into a Lower East Side thrift-shopping barista hipster who wen't clubbing every night and had a roster of various failing musician boyfriends. It was glorious. Major influence on my psyche! There was literally a bar playset, they just called it a tiki "lounge" instead, for obvious reasons.  Girls' toys are so much more bizarrely conservative and puritan now. They've been stripped of all imagination and fun aesthetics to appeal to both Buzzfeed pop feminism (liking makeup and clothes is bad for women!) and luddite conservatives (liking makeup and clothes is for liberated whores!) and it's genuinely much worse than what it replaced, because children are now forced to rely on the internet to find any sort of play that is fun and isn't sanitized. These Roblox kids will never know anything other than how to gamble and get scammed online, that's why all the toys in toy aisles now are either slime or blind boxes and other gambling-for-kids type trash. The gambling is the play value! |

The Bratz remake is alright the clothes aren't as good but I like that they made two of them gay  Horrible outfits but love the lesbian/bi representation |

They fired all the real homos from these doll design jobs because their designs were "degrading to women" and "too slutty" and now we're all stuck with the most straight design sensibility ever from Mattel or like these Alok Menon ass outfits. It's a dark time.

Finally watched the Barbie movie, it is so fucking funny to me how triggered it made Ben Shapiro. I thought it was pretty funny and enjoyable, itβs funny how people like Sean think Barbie gives girls unrealistic standards. I definitely think the DUFF demographic of people (thatβs dumb ugly fat friend for all you zoomers, weβre all that to someone) are resentful of people more attractive than they are doing better in life than they are. Iβm certainly guilty of it at times, as Iβm sure most of us are. Iβm not sure what my point is here, I think Iβm coming down with the flu but it was a fun movie.

Not necessarily a bad thing though because it's a great time for movies that are fun to go see now that marvel has shit the bed I would love if any big studio stopped being so fucking cowardly and put out a large-budget movie that wasn't tied to an IP behemoth but I've already given up on all hope, the shareholders will never go for it. I did respect at least the fact that they did build practical effects for the Barbie movie because the CGI-heavy look of all big-budget films now is just awful and is gonna age so badly if it ever goes away, which it probably won't because it's largely a loophole to avoid union pay. |

They absolutely do. It doesn't help that they blew up on TikTok because of "y2k nostalgia" and a lot of those kids are unfamiliar with how the "view sold listings" button on eBay works and just pay whatever the asking price online is, driving up the price for a ton of them.

Do bratz dolls have an active secondary market? barbie movie blew up the secondary market this year, but i'm not sure about bratz specifically. bratz as a brand has been low priority for mga thanks to the success of tie dye high and lol omg. bratz has mostly been reproductions/re-releases from like 20 years ago, but is coming back more recently |

Barbie haters are dumb and wrong because some of the most legendary costume designers in history were also full-time designers for Barbie. There is no Bob Mackie-level designer that made costumes for any other fashion doll line, save maybe the Integrity doll line that had a lot of them desighned by Jason Wu. I'm really partial to the ones with the vintage-style face sculpts, I'm just so drawn to the vintage glamour they all have but I'm not at a point in my life where I want to be collecting random crap anymore, let alone crap that will probably scare some maidens so I just admire from a distance. |
