Chalz, why do you constantly champion people and bands who work to turn what's left of punk and hardcore subculture into a fucking Nick Jr. version of itself? Genuinely baffled, genuinely curious. What's your issue with critical thinking? And this reminds me: anyone remember the poster on Old Testament circa 2009 who joined up only to talk shit on Bridge 9 bands and used (or misused) the word "platitudes" in every single post? I enjoy what I enjoy. I have a wide range. I just recently saw The Chisel who I assume would fall into a hardcore subculture that people would nod in approval of. They were just OK as every song just kinda sounded the same after awhile. I have a wide range- everything from festival headlining hardcore bands to other festival headlining hardcore bands! |

This new ep by Intercom is sick as hell. Hardcore punk, you got some d-beat parts, some bouncy parts kinda like s.h.i.t. (by way of destino final/invasión), some cool mosh parts. I'm really glad they didn't throw any delay or heavy effects on the vocals. I think that's overdone a lot with this style, and they sound great without any of that, hits way harder. I'm also really enjoying this new demo by Dark Uniform. Idk what it is exactly but it gives me kind of an aughts era hardcore vibe. Like I could imagine seeing em on a show with lights out and then a few years later tui. Not just a throwback sound though, it stands out on its own. Again more of a noticeable punk influence rather than metalcore or anything like that. Also, not hardcore, but the new Criminal just dropped and is of course, a masterpiece. 100% oi! but still existing outside of any genre constraints. If you’re into punk, metal, or hardcore and you want to be involved somehow, there’s tons of different things you can do, whether it’s high or low effort stuff. Zines, distros, booking shows, sending records into radio shows or podcasts, whatever. You can’t tell the difference between that stuff and social media influencer garbage? |
