I found out "egg punk" existed like a month ago when I wen't on Facebook and every washed up aspiring podcaster LA/NY hipster I know had it as a top genre on their Spotify wrapped, Spotify is very prone to using genre names that aren't organically used by real people and then forcing their use on hard-rockers who think they've discovered anything new and eventually end up writing articles on it, bringing exposure.
"Permanent wave" is one they'd give me a lot too which is their made-up moniker for what is essentially '80s/'90s college rock.

I kind of can't stand their user base, even though I'm not totally sure what it consists of -- pedantic losers I think. The genre names are absolutely insane. There are like no joke, 10,000 micro-genres in say electronic music that make my nerd ass look like Larry Bird(dumb? jock). Back in my day there were like four different types of emo and that was it!
