You can go through any of your saved playlists and hover your mouse on the tracks to immediately start autoplaying a clip and there's also a roulette button for randomized artists and genres it's pretty neat

if you're talking about genres/microgenres then hardcore has plenty. beatdown, NYHC, crossover, crust, grindcore, burning spirits, d-beat, youth crew, powerviolence, riot grrrl, like two dozen others i don't care to type out because i'm drinking and watching football.

It’s true, hardcore has plenty. This computer music shit is psycho though. There is a name for every type of beep and boop and bop. Rest assured some kid in Bulgaria took a single boop and turned it into Slavic-Winter-Dungeon-Synth-Hauntology and that spawned 20 different genres, these kids are outta control

that's largely the doing of music journos and perhaps more commonly these days places like reddit and the aforementioned RYM. most of those aren't even "real" genres anyway and fade into obscurity as quickly as they are created. at least with hardcore there's actual substance behind the subgenres and they don't ever go away.

That’s what I’m sayin’. People within these communities do use the nomenclature though. It’s just mostly an online thing. I think they’re about as real as mysterious guy hardcore is though.

it's also a lot harder for hardcore (and other rock music) to come up something new because the style of music is, generally speaking, quite rigid. those microgenres pop up so often within various electronic music scenes and internet subcultures because you can just do so much more with computer programs, and they're easily accessible today than ever before. rockers (including hardcore into this box) have an aversion to change and, relatively speaking, that can be both good and bad.

some of the music these terminally online hipster types make is usually very inauthentic and never sticks which is why they lace their shit with some sorta faux deep critique on society and culture and the internet or whatever because they lack any of their own. they're basically confused genre tourists.

I've never seen anyone describe riot grrrl as a style of hardcore until now. It's always been considered punk, and most of the bands who define the genre are purposefully distancing themselves from hardcore. It's weird because queercore is definitely a movement but apart from the lame and meaningless moniker of "female fronted hardcore" there's really no movement or scene to describe hardcore by or for women.
