Started doing this... got a jazz album (The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady) and as someone who doesn't listen to jazz... I have no idea how to rate it.
The Gene Clark negativity in this thread is giving me dismay haha.

Got a Janis Jolpin album (Pearl) that I assumed I'd hate today, and turned out, I found it mildly pleasant and fully inoffensive! A 3/5 that I expected to be a 1/5

The Gene Clark negativity in this thread is giving me dismay haha. I just got that album recently as well. I already knew and loved it but it is kind of experimental, especially for the time so I could understand why it does not mesh well with people who don't already listen to jazz

The Fall was my favorite band, I bought 3 or 4 records before it clicked. Dragnet was the one that did it. I basically quit listening to them when he died though I have a bunch of cool Fall stuff. I'll post some of it. Mark E. Smith gave me a beer. yooooo i want to see ![](https://i.ibb.co/Yc54Tw4/20240320-230833.jpg)

Honestly I think my least favorite is Countdown To Ecstasy though. Show Biz Kids b/w Razor Boy is a pretty incredible single From the first one to Aja I honestly think each record is better than the last. I never need to hear Aja again, though. Katy Lied is so good. Gaucho and The Royal Scam would be my personal favorites.

"Babylon" was in regular rotation at the Sears I worked in during High School. Didn't realize this was the same guy.

From Elvis in Memphis today. I appreciate Elvis, but don't think he's the king of anything. This is a later era Elvis release and recorded in a Memphis studio renowned for their country backing band. Was not expecting to like it, but so far the band is SOLID despite being a bit too honky tonk for my tastes

Richard and Linda Thompson - I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight
I own this but have to admit I never spent a ton of time with it. I mostly listened to versions of these songs found elsewhere.
Pour Down Like Silver is the best Richard & Linda Thompson album of the 70s. It's so good.
Rod Stewart - Gasoline Alley
I am not into the production or song selection on this. There's a killer video of Rod the Mod singing "Gasoline Alley" acapella on German television, though. I would watch that instead.
Atlantic Crossing is the least spotty Rod Stewart solo album (they're all spotty) and the most fun. That's the one to try if you're curious. All the uptempo songs are about drugs and fucking, or beating off, and they're all really catchy and good.
The song "Dirty Weekend" is not on either of these but it is fucking hilarious

Day 6 - Simon & Garfunkel (Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme) 3/5 - found a few tracks I really enjoyed from this (Patterns especially is very beautiful) but most of them sounded the same to me Day 7 - The Flaming Lips (The Soft Bulletin) 1/5 - some of the most masturbatory bullshit I've ever heard in my life and probably objectively the worst vocals in all of rock music, I hate the Flaming Lips so much, all of the insipid lowbrow attempts at a "grand" arena sound like Coldplay and U2 but also with none of the talent of either Day 8 - Janelle Monae (The ArchAndroid) 5/5 - This has been one of my favorite soul/R&B albums of all time for over 10 years now and I will never get tired of it, one of the best concept albums of all time seriously go listen to it Day 9 - GZA (Liquid Swords) 4/5 - An absolute classic I never listened to in full until now, still sounds so effortless and smooth all these years later, only not 5/5 because I don't think it's GZA's best album Day 10 - Ms. Dynamite (A Little Deeper) 2/5 - Why is this even on this list, very generic and dated early 2000s R&B, absolutely not something you need to listen to "before you die". Knockoff Lauryn Hill but English? You can tell this list was made by a Brit in the early 2000s because there is no other conceivable way someone would see this album as relevant or timeless otherwise Day 11 - Nine Inch Nails (The Downward Spiral) - 4/5 cornier than I remember, but still holds up Day 12 - Skepta (Konnichiwa) - 2/5 more random UK dogshit showing the author's bias, but this time it's a really corny grime album. Ludacris nursery rhyme type bars, skits that belong in a rap album from 2003... it's bad Day 13 - The Wire (Pink Flag) - 5/5 this album changed my life when I was a teenager and made me fall in love with punk -- so blessed for this being one of my first introductions to punk and I can't believe it came out in 1977, this could be a fresh album in every single year since Day 14 - The Fall (This Nation's Saving Grace) - 5/5 to be honest I didn't really get The Fall until Sean made me like an 85 song long playlist of their songs -- I've successfully been brainwashed into getting them -- when I was first getting into older post-punk in high school I found them boring and did not have the patience to listen through their massive discography, now I love them so much especially this one it's one of their more accessible ones Day 15 - Johnny Cash (At San Quentin) 2/5 - this just felt like a throwaway bootleg recording for diehard Johnny Cash fans rather than a good live album Not very strong picks the past few days - only favorite was one I already knew well Day 16 - Willie Nelson (Red Headed Stranger) 3/5 Day 17 - Venom (Black Metal) 3/5 Day 18 - Bjork (Debut) 5/5 Day 19 - George Harrison (All Things Must Pass) 3/5 Day 20 - James Taylor (Sweet Baby James) 2/5 would've made it a 1 but at least he can sing

yesterday I got Purple Rain which is an automatic 5 Star. Today I got Blur's Parklife. I talk shit about this band all the time but I am actually curious to see how the full album sounds. Definitely has its moments but 13 and self-titled are the albums worth listening to, very different than Parklife more noisy and dissonant

Not very strong picks the past few days - only favorite was one I already knew well Day 16 - Willie Nelson (Red Headed Stranger) 3/5 Day 17 - Venom (Black Metal) 3/5 Day 18 - Bjork (Debut) 5/5 Day 19 - George Harrison (All Things Must Pass) 3/5 Day 20 - James Taylor (Sweet Baby James) 2/5 would've made it a 1 but at least he can sing Working through Willie Nelson Red Headed Stranger today myself! A full country album was something I was dreading, but this isn't terrible. Probably not going to be a relisten for me, but Willie's got a great voice for this (the element that usually has me climbing the walls with country) and is a talented musician. Maybe I've just been exposed to all the wrong country by my redneck relatives. Makes sense that All Things Must Pass is on there, but wow that's going to be a long day of listening! Or is the Apple Jam portion not considered part of the album?

Or is the Apple Jam portion not considered part of the album? Definitely not terrible. Actually beautiful, just didn't feel like a strong album beginning to end for me. I felt the same way about both the Willie Nelson album and the George Harrison album -- a couple of songs I really liked when I started the record and the second half just wasn't that strong. I really, really like Willie Nelson's voice though and I have a feeling that if I listen to more records of his I'll find one I really like -- this just probably wasn't the one for me All Things Must Pass I did actually listen to all 40 or however many songs and there are a few good picks (Let It Down, Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp, Isn't It A Pity, I'd Have You Anytime) but it really does feel like a collection of b-sides not good enough for a Beatles album, because that's essentially exactly what it is. Was hoping I would love it all as much as I love I'd Have You Anytime but nah no good

Yesterday was the Go Go’s - beauty and the beat. I’m familiar with the two big singles off it, and the rest is all pretty much the same. 3/5.
Today is Public Enemy- It Takes a Nation… Another hip hop classic. I’ve no idea what albums are on this list besides the ones everyone posts but I feel like my list is front loaded with all the good hip hop and the further I get will be like… sugar hill gang, or the rapping Duke.

Got Here's Little Richard today. The literal godfather and inventor of rock and roll. At 22 minutes, this album was WAY too short so I'm just walking through Richard's discography today. As much as I love him, I've always skipped over his gospel period. Looking forward to changing that this afternoon.

I got OK Computer and Coldcut - What's that Noise for the weekend
i was prepared to act too cool for school and give OK Computer 4/5 but i sat down and listened to it straight through for the first time in probably at least a decade and it is flawless. there is nothing negative to say about anything here, it is one of the best records of all time. in fact, it has probably actually gotten better with time as the lyrical themes all hit precisely the right notes for a dying capitalist society. in 1997, far fewer people saw this coming than the amount which now realize what we're in. a pig in a cage on antibiotics indeed. 5/5
The Coldcut record was the first thing I'd never heard or even heard of that they'd fed me. It was decent. Sort of like proto electronica I guess. Kinda just made me wanna listen to Erik B and Rakim though. 2.5/5 but I gave it a 3 on the site
