So new Jason Isbell, meh? Got some tracks though. Couple good tracks, probably like most albums I say MEH to in the beginning it just needs to spin a few times. I thought it was pretty meh too until I saw him and Amanda play it live at that bowling alley show. It sounds so much better with just guitar and fiddle.

His story seems a little too outrageous Single mom, was a dirty kid, knocked for dense nuggs of fat buds, skipped getting tangled up in moms fraud scheme. Not that outrageous? The traveling the world homeless with just a guitar thing, while also being involved with Sony music at the time. I’m sure it’s all true, but seems like something that would be written as a backstory for a country star

Homeless, happened to have a guitar so he busked is not as romantic as “was an international vagrant with a guitar”. He’s for sure hamming you his character but hasn’t he played the Opry? I think he’s probably closer to Dolly Parton than Hank Williams even if his music isn’t big label country. As an aside, I bought a lyric sheet from hayden karchmer and he never sent it, and wen't radio silent. So that sucks.

For what it's worth... Orville Peck's first Euro tour worth that name took him through the summer festival scene while Charley came over playing dive bars in the middle of nowhere.

I’m always curious about the “authenticity” argument. If the dude isn’t born with buckwheat in his teeth and overalls does the music just not do it for you? I understand people hate building an image or fabricating an artist, they take it as false but this shit ain’t new. Is there an artist you just can’t get into because of the persona?

Is there an artist you just can’t get into because of the persona? i actually really like image / persona, and i also tend to believe that people who work to earn their place in a specific art tradition are just as valuable to that art tradition as the people who seem to inherit it (buckwheat babies in this instance). for me it's not about cred as much as it's about transparency. there's something distasteful about feeling like i'm being sold a story that some organization believes will appeal my sensibilities, and i think a lot of music fans feel that way. it feels like a form of lowest common denominator pandering. big labels still do it because it still works well, but i think that might be where some of the disconnect comes in. it's like that episode of the simpsons where skinner buys a bunch of krusty burgers and tries to pass them off as his own home cooking. everybody enjoys krusty burger too dog, just shoot us straight lol

Charley reminds me of early Justin Townes Earle, and that is a compliment.

Dude who did the TVZ shirt, never commented that it's sick, and thanks. I can't be the only one that would be interested in a Ralph Stanley one if you were down into doing one.

Ya, sorry man, just trying to sell through whatever shirts are left. Stepping away from the bootleg game for a bit however they're is a sweet picture of Charlie Louvin with a muppet in Satan Is Real I wouldn't mind on a shirt haha.

I could do with a Satan Is Real boot that isn't just the cover DTG'ed on white shirt. Light In The Attic did a fun one a while back but they're long gone.

Don't know if any of y'all are into them, but Mike and the Moonpies released an album of "lost" Gary Stewart songs. It's pretty good.

Yeah, I feel you on that. M&TM have a few good songs, but they've yet to put out something entirely cohesive if that makes sense. Their songs never seem to that "punch". The new Gary Stewart album works to their limitations I think, and doesn't allow them to go overboard and meander.

Not outlaw country, but I’m not sure anyone really wants a sweetheart of the rodeo/new riders of the purple sage thread
Digging this now tho
