The weird rise of Versatile in Ireland has me so confused. They originally started off mostly as a comedic act but seem to be taking it more seriously now. They got called out by a lot of the Irish hip hop scene for some (definite) racist lyrics and essentially disowned by the legit rap scene. But in the last month, they just announced that they're doing an arena tour with Snoop Dogg in the UK, sold out a 14,000 venue in Dublin and put out a song with Coolio (lol).
Coolio referring Ringsend as the Compton of Europe is surreal.

Making a big deal about having a Coolio feature in 2019 is fucking wild.

whatβs some good irish hip hop i should check out Irish hip hop is going through a bit of a Renaissance period at the moment. I can't say I'm actively involved in the scene or know a huge amount of what's going on, but there's a few that are creeping into the mainstream. A lot of it isn't to my taste, but because of how much of an explosion it's undergoing, there's a wide variety of rappers and hip hop artists. I've tried to show some of the different styles below. I think there's a lot of potential in most of these artists and you can start to see a few labels taking notice but I think it'll be a while before you hear some of these accents playing on the radio outside of Ireland haha. Kojaque & Luka Palm: Two of the most promising up and coming rappers - I think Luka just turned 18. They just finished up a UK tour with slowthai
Kojaque: The solo Kojaque stuff is my favourite from this current class of rappers
Rejjie Snow: I don't personally fuck with Rejjie but he's probably the biggest rapper to come from Ireland. His fake American accent has been a point of contention for years
Lethal Dialect: One for the old heads
Hare Squead: Feel good summer jams, not necessarily hip hop
Mango x Mathman: Bringing the garage and grime vibes back
Nealo: Hardcore frontman (check out Frustration, one of the best to come from Ireland) to jazzy rapper/singer in the space of a few years Jyellowl: As featured in the new FIFA soundtrack

I really like the 2 new Step Brothers songs (Burnt Tree and Learn to Surf)
Inspired me to go back and listen to Lord Steppington. I feel like this album got better with time. I was luke warm on it when it came out but all of a sudden the production blows my mind and Evidence/Alchemist have some great bars.

anybody digging that new max b???
"take my time" is some vintage silver surfer
bringing back memories of 06-07 era. the rest of the songs are decent but too feature heavy.

I cant imagine listening to Eminem in 2020. I played some of his stuff recently and its embarrassing and aged horribly. I say that as someone who listened to Slim Shady LP and Marshall Mathers LP an insane amount of time between 99 and 01.

I listened to "Godzilla" and it's hilariously bad. Someone on my feed said it sounded like Porky Pig rapping and now I can't unhear it.
