Anyone here building muscles on a vegan diet? I been vegan for 3 month now and lost a lot of mass. Help me! i managed to pack on about 45 lbs of muscle over the last two years or so. for me the key was eliminating a lot of processed junk + mock meats and really focusing on eating clean / whole foods. i try my best to prepare all my meals + snacks in a way that makes them as nutritionally dense as possible. look for little ways to inject things you're already used to eating with some extra protein + nutritional value. i crush a lot of rice, beans, nuts, seeds, fruits, veggies, lentils, good carbs, and some healthy fats. daily protein shake after my workout and some vitamin supplements in the morning with breakfast. i try to cook 95% of my meals, not skip any meals when i can manage, and i've found it helpful to take the same mental approach towards eating + sleeping that i do towards my time in the gym since everything has a direct effect on everything else. eat big and lift big pimp my dude that is a ludicrous amount of weight; were you super skinny to begin with? had you never lifted before?

Help me! i've been lifting for like...8.5 years and vegan for 9ish years now...so yeah, hah. eat big lift big drink those shakes. if i could go back in time and tell twinklord me that i could put up the numbers i do now, he'd say i was a liar. big key for me after the newbie gains was following a program (5/3/1), utilizing protein shakes+creatine after workouts, and just generally eating more food than i used to (but i honestly feel like my metabolism got kicked way up once i started working out cause i'm basically hungry all the time now). also consistency is key obvi, only times i have missed multiple days in the gym in that timeframe were if i was on vacation, sick, or nursing an injury.

How big are you? I think this matters a lot. Also would be curious for no doz and ghostboobs to chime in on this.
No doz's general eating suggestions are definitely good ones. I think the good general meal plan is to have dinners etc always be thought of as protein source (seitan, tofu, tempeh, whatever), bean/lentil, grain/starch (rice, sweet potato, quinoa, millet, etc), green vegetable. Slap a sauce with some good fat in it on it and you're good to go. If you're gaining weight shrink your portions, if you're trying to put on weight up them.
Also the oldest easiest trick in the book for putting on weight (a la highschool football player or whatever) is to just eat two peanut butter and jelly (or banana, my personal favorite, or whatever) sandwiches a day on top of everything else. Easy way to add on another 800 or so calories. If you're actually lifting heavy (relative to your ability of course) this will give you mostly a 'clean' bulk.
I'm not gonna win any power-lifting competitions but for the sport I do and most metrics I'm pretty strong for my size. I will say, from experience, getting "big" in the sense of huge muscular hypertrophy while keeping a very low bf% a la bodybuilding, a vegan diet is a bit harder (because our high protein sources tend to have more carbs and thus more calories per gram). If you're trying to get stronger without gaining weight, or get larger in general (powerlifting, strongman, etc) a vegan diet is totally workable, great, fine, etc.

dang, this is def beyond as far as i've looked into food prep and diet (which is probably why i am not shredded but oh well). also, i have never heard that sandwich trick, i think i might give that a go, although to me that sounds like a total dirty bulk trick. that won't add a bunch of fat onto your frame? i have been watching carbs pretty heavily over the past few months because my weight got a little past what i thought it should be considering what i was lifting, and i think a big problem was just going too ham on my portions of things that were high in carbs (rice and quinoa mostly) and not intaking enough protein (that whole bodyweight of grams of protein intake each day seems insane though). lately my lunch go to is just a big ass salad with half a package of seitan on top, high protein/low carb and then for dinner i don't have to worry about the carb intake as much. before going vegan/lifting i was at about 170-175 lbs. i'm about 6' 1", hovering at 205 lbs right now, and was 215 at my heaviest. i would say my strength now is greater than the average person, but also i feel like for how long i've been lifting and for my weight i am underperforming significantly (i'm pretty pissed i haven't hit a 500lb DL yet, and my bench should be way more than 225 but that's where i'm maxing being able to hit reps right now). i know you aren't supposed to compare yourself to other people, but it's impossible not to so fuck it. realistically i would like to start food logging to track macros, but the idea of inputting literally every recipe i ever make into an app and then weighing my food to calculate portions just seems like an insane amount of work. on the old board, someone in the powerlifting thread sent me a shake recipe that will def add weight (if you're looking for a quick way to tack on some mass) because i got chunky drinking one of these every day that summer haha. rbgsocialclub.wordpress.com/2011/12/31/iron-mike-vegan-weight-gain-shake-recipe/

Not a lifter but an endurance athlete and I have only gotten stronger. I am sure I eat too much Gardein and faux meats but I do add a lot of pasta and veggies.
