I had to replace an input jack for that once my guy charged me like $8 i'm too shit at soldering to work on electronics because it's probably the jack or possibly the volume knob. I managed to get all the setup excepting the other half of the intonation done tho lol

DOD Metal Maniac on craigslist for $100. I miss having old DOD pedals, always kind of cool. I sold the DOD PDS I had for cheap because I didn't have time/money to get it modded, but one of my favorite delays. I REALLY regret selling the DOD Stereo Turbo Chorus I had. Never played with that slew of DOD metal pedals (thrash master, American Metal) and $100 is steep but, I dunno. It's cool!

Both of my Fernandes FPM-80s. On the left, a 1979, which I've had for nearly three years now. On the right, a 1980 or possibly 1981, which I got in January and will be practicing with this weekend after it spent a couple of months clamped to a workbench to address a kink in the neck. I like the appearance of the 1979 more, but I prefer the other one in every other way: it's lighter, the neck is faster, it sounds livelier unplugged, and it's in better overall condition. The stock pickups in the 1979 seem to be Japanese copies of DiMarzio P-Bass pickups. The bridge pickup on the 1980 is most likely a replacement, although it could be a late-production parts bin special, as the very similar BO-60 used pickups like this. In any event, it's also a Japanese DiMarzio copy. Normally these have Jazz Bassโstyle wiring, but a previous owner also rewired the newer one to have a master volume, a master tone, and a center-off pickup blend knob between them. It's not super useful, but it make turning down between songs easier. I spent the same on these basses together as I spent on the miserable Guild B-302 that I'm selling. Or, for that matter, the Rickenbacker 4003 I bought new in 2010. And both of these instruments are more satisfying to play than either of those.

Don't think I've ever played anything with dual-P pickups before. Those are sexy

I am once again expressing my regret for selling my Guild B302S instead of just being late on rent.

www.guitarworld.com/news/guitar-center-new-ceo-futureI don't normally associate Guitar Center with premium guitars. If they weren't the Spencer's Gifts of music stores I'd say he has a point, but anytime I've gone and tried out a guitar it's been out of tune or in need of serious maintenance (neck adjustment, loose tuning pegs/machine heads, broken strings, faulty wiring).

the real thing about GC is simple, it's just not cool. nothing about the experience is cool. it's not cool to kids getting their first instruments, it's not cool to blues lawyers who wanna blow money to have the same gear as their idols. zero cool

Everything should be locked up behind glass, and visits should be by appointment only.

Over 20 years ago, I bought a pretty expensive (at least on the budget I had) ESP guitar brand new from the shop and after less than 3 months of use, the sound started cutting out in the neck position. I took it back to get it fixed and it worked for less than a month so I took it back again. The tech messed with it and came back saying nothing was wrong and everybody sort of making fun of me/being condescending pricks after I asked them to replace it since it was still under warranty.
I took it to another shop and paid to get it fixed and again it only worked for a few months. It just sits there now and last I played it, it just made this awful sound. I think it might have been bad pickups.
edited for clarity: the guitar was not bought at gc

GC is cool to try something I've already done research on, that said I aim to make trips there as short as possible

Iโve bought like 3 guitars with my GC gear card. I timed the purchases for when it was double points so Iโve gotten over $500 in rewards over the years. The best part is their reward system is somehow fucked up and doesnโt realize youโve redeemed your points and keeps prompting you to. It did it to me once after I redeemed around $100 and another time for like $200. They kept emailing me that my points were going to expire so I just bought more stuff ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ

The best guitars Iโve had were bought from smaller guitar shops. Guitar Town in the Irvington neighborhood of Indianapolis was truly a gem and Iโm bummed they couldnโt make it. They did great work and always had great stuff inside with an extremely generous payment plan (as long as you gave em $200 down theyโd hold anything for you). Owner said he didnโt believe in selling guitars that were more than $1000 because โthen youโre more scared of damaging it than excited to play it.โ
Guitar Center is like Blockbuster. They showed up, blew everyone else out of business, and promptly started to fucking suck.

I hate being a customer service punisher but I had to bug Sweetwater to just ship all the shit and just send the bass's gig bag later. I want that fuckin bass. I love short scales so much.

Bass finally shipped and they sent me a full blown photoshoot of the bass. Iโm really stoked. I almost wen't with flatwounds but I just love the Rotosound Swing Bass strings. They have a lot of presence without being fizzy.

I just recorded with an EQ pedal in the loop for the first time. I don't think I'll record without it again. Looooove the volume boost and the extra crunch.

I havenโt tried this but I miss having an amp with a parametric eq It's worth experimenting for sure. I had the Mesa dialed in right where I wanted it and then when I turned the EQ on, it removed a blanket I didnt even know I had. You can really fall into a rabbit hole once you start messing with the blend knob for the loop.

Just have to say the Sam Ash closing sale fucking blows. Haven't been to the physical store since it was announced, but I imagine it's as shit as the online sale.
A music shop dies every 2 years around me lol.

My '70s SVT has been with a tech for over 8 months now. Something wen't wrong with the power stage. After a few hours of playing there was suddenly a volume drop of like 50%, and even on 1 it was breaking up into distortion. Talked to him last week and he said he had taken it apart a few weeks ago, didn't find any obvious problem, then put it back together, and now it doesn't even power up. He's got a great reputation, and his shop is FULL of other Ampeg equipment, so I was fairly confident when I left it with him, but now I'm really starting to get nervous. I just want to shake my house!

If anyone else has a Quad Cortex, I have 4 captures up on Cortex Cloud
2 different versions of my Maxon OD808, my Maxon ST9Pro+ and a Fortin Modded TS9. The TS9 surprisingly sounds the best out of all of them at least for what Iโm playing.

Looks killer and plays great. The bridge is really easy to adjust on the fly, which it needed. Killer neck. The pick up is a beast

god DAMN it rocks. Itโs a comfortable instrument, but it feels different than either a full scale bass or a short scale. The pickup is really versatile. Tone and volume knobs have a lot more range than other budget line instruments. It sounds absolutely massive, to the point that I donโt know what the OMG mode with both controls all the way up would even be useful for.

Uggggh some intonation issues. E string intonation gets a bit wonky above 12th fret. Thought it might be a simple saddle height issue, not so sure now. Oh well, almost always have to have a shipped guitar set up anyhow.
