I know I brought this up months ago, but why is Prime's user interface so horrible? There is plenty of stuff I'm interested in on there (foreign and art house), but it's nearly impossible to sort through, and my main page always just wants me to watch big box comedies from the 2000s and Prime's lame tv series.
Is the streaming part of Prime just not a big priority for them?

It's awful. Thankfully, places like Paste will always do those '50 best movies on Prime' lists and stuff like that to help sift through the (immeasurable) amount of trash.
They have the best and most diverse library by a million country miles and you'd never know it.

I mean Netflix throws their own series at you too. And the original series are something Prime is pouring into.
Their interface is not great, but Iβve found that after a while of training it to know what you like it gets better. Most of my suggestions are relevant now.

They are one of the biggest companies in the world, so their streaming service is probably way low on the list of priorities.

fwiw a friend of mine who is a programmer was telling me how Amazon makes most of its money by providing the actual nuts-and-bolts of streaming for companies like Amazon and Hulu, who basically pay a rental fee to use Amazon's massive infrastructure. Apparently this part of the business is even bigger than their retail/delivery dept.
I might be getting it wrong, but I am extremely bored by computer tech and was almost put to sleep by this conversation. But it actually is kind of interesting.
assdan, I watch movies through Prime several times a week my suggestions never improve >:O

After I watch something that isn't exactly mainstream, the "because you watched" section is great.

The problem is that unless you watch something else off that list in the next day or so to keep the cycle going, all of those recs just evaporate and those movies are impossible to find again. So frustrating.

Watched some amazing movies over the past week.
King Rat (1965) - Black and white POW movie set in WWII and starring George Segal. Not sure how long Segal has been an actor, but this is the earliest movie i've seen him in, and i think it's his best. If you're into prison camp movies like Stalag 17 or The Great Escape, you'll dig this, and it's on par with those movies. Segal plays "The King", a nickname he gets because of his scamming skills, and he pretty much runs the camps. He soon learns to breed rats to sell as meat, to get enough money to buy his escape. So many memorable scenes and a great cast of characters make this 2 hour film fly by. I became so invested in these guys that i pretty much could watch them do anything and be entertained. Solid 10/10.
God's Little Acre (1958) - Story of a poor cotton farmer's family. The father thinks his grandfather buried gold on the property and spends the days with his 2 sons digging countless enormous holes across his land. One of his sons is married to a beautiful (like incredibly hot) lady that EVERYONE in town, including members of his own family, are trying to get with. There are other great characters like the soon-to-be Mayor played by Buddy Hacket, and the brother in law who lives in a town where everyone is out of work because the cotton plant shut down some years before. He equates the lights in the factory being on with 'meat and potatoes on every plate', and is constantly trying to break in and turn the lights on. He whole movie is drenched in booze, sweat and lust until is just boils over into violence and crime. This has become one of the my faves of the '50s. Perfect. Another 10/10.
Watched a bunch more but these 2 really stood out. Pretty sure they're both on Prime right now.

TRUCK STOP WOMEN (1974) 4.5/5 One of the first off my list of movies Joe Bob Briggs talks about in his HOW REDNECKS SAVED HOLLYWOOD series - and boy what a great first selection. Directed by the great Mark Lester so I knew it was going to be a cut above the rest. Plays out like a western but with trucks, so really exactly what youβre asking for. Itβs got Claudia Jennings, multiple babes with high powered weapons, and the βMafiaβ (aka a couple a goons in suits and glasses) trying to take down a Southern under the rug business, so thereβs your checklist of Hillbillysploitation.
HOLLYWOOD VICE SQUAD (1986) 2.5/5 This is an okay watch but it really just plays out like a bunch of episodic cop shows over and over that we've seen on television over and over by now. The squad goes after hookers, pimps, drug dealers, and the likes of those 80s street baddies in one sequence after another, basically just doing cop stuff. Carrie Fisher has an angle that's unfortunately pretty much abandoned and that sucks. Robin Wright plays a juvenile that gets involved in bad stuff not unlike the plot in Schrader's "Hardcore". Disappointing.
GIRLS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN (1985) 2/5 Dancesploitation/teeny bop 80s mall movie features young Sarah Jessica Parker. Teens just want to dance, and then they do. About it.

Kind of disappointed by the new Godzilla. The battle scenes are incredible, and worthy of seeing the movie for alone. They truly could not have done a better job with Gidorah, Mothra and Rodan.
But lord, the human drama, absolutely awful. And I'm very much of the shut-up-who-cares-its-an-action movie persuasion, but with a monster movie, the human drama genuinely needs to do some work and set the stage for why we should care about the monsters and who/what they're destroying. I think Cloverfield did this very well. Shin Godzilla did this very well. But even with all the acting talent they assembled for this it's a real ham-fisted script. Vera Farmiga's character in particular was truly awful. Not even Charles Dance and Bradley Whitford could save things.
That said -- still hella excited for Godzilla vs. Kong next year.

I enjoyed Godzilla the same way I enjoyed Skull Island. Yeah the writing was fucking awful and they wasted a pretty solid cast but there was enough enjoyable action for me.

I feel similarly. I still really enjoyed it because, well, big fucking monsters fighting. I said going in that I was prepared to be let down by the writing as long as I got to see Godzilla fucking up some other monsters. I did like seeing some of the classic kaiju on the big screen with modern effects. Like you said, they were all really impressive. The plot was super uninspired. Population control? Really? Maybe they characters saw Infinity War a few years earlier and were inspired. The acting was good, but the cast felt totally underutilized, just like in the 2014 Godzilla. I wanted more perspective from the ground. There was a lot of that in 2014, but almost none in this movie. Almost every shot of the action comes from above, as if the characters were movie goers themselves. IMO the best monster movies share the perspective of the people whose lives are being wrecked by the destruction. That's why IMO Cloverfield is one of the best monster movies of all time (a controversial apinion I know), but it captures the chaos in a way that most other monster movies fail to do, you feel like you are there with the characters and it's terrifying. 2014 Godzilla did this to an extent as well, but for the most part KOTM just ignores what's happening to the actual people who live in these cities being demolished. I wasn't initially excited for Godzilla vs Kong, until I realized that it was tied into the same universe as Kong: Skull Island (I literally just found that out while typing this post, because I was about to write that I thought it would be cool if they did that, but that it probably wouldn't happen). I didn't realize Legendary is doing a Monsterverse similar to MCU, but with Monsters. I think that's great. I'm also a little more on board because Adam Wingard is directing. That said, I was excited for KOTM because of Michael Dougherty, but I didn't really feel his presence at all in this movie except maybe through Bradley Whitford's character.

Fully agreed on the Cloverfield point. That movie's greatest success was the immersion of feeling like you are IN the shit with those characters.
