If you cannot figure out what people liked about Uncut Gems, guy, I truly do not know what to tell you. I've heard great things and looking forward to it.

Uncut Gems was great. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Sander can certainly act, but no chance in hell hes winning an Oscar for this. when you say his character is just flat out unlikable, to quote the movie, I disagree. I disagree Gary. Despite the fact that he makes every wrong decision he can out of pure selfishness, I still found him likable. I'm sure that has a lot to do with the fact that its adam sandler, and at some subconscious level I and millions of others will always find him charming. I knew KG was in the movie but I had no idea he would have such a prominent role, I thought it was more of a 2 second cameo that they'd stick in the trailer. He was great. He's getting a lot of praise for this and im curious if hes gonna want to act more. He is a rich slimy jewel hustler who just wanted more. I just couldn't identify with him at all. I felt no pity or remorse for him and I just wanted him dead. I thought the movie was going to be like a heist or a revenge plot or have some sort of story / backbone besides the protagonist 'winning' by taking a bet at the end. "This is how I win" was such an eye roll. KG was great though, like I was surprised how well he did. I can completely understand why you'd feel that way about his character. I think I didn't 100% despise him because despite being a POS he still made an effort to keep his family together, connect with his kids, be civil with his brother-in-law at family gatherings, etc. His addiction just got in the way of it all, which is something most of us have seen. Its a tragedy and it was suspenseful the whole way through, because just when you think everything's gonna be okay, he goes and fucks it up more by chasing that high of winning big. That's how addiction is. I saw an interview with KG where he says "I just played myself, it isn't that hard." muchacho does not give himself enough credit, because plenty of non-actor celebs try their hand at acting, sometimes playing themselves, and they suck ass. edit: added spoiler tags

I would heavily question the taste of anyone who thought Uncut Gems was awful.

I wen't into Parasite blind. I knew it got good reviews, but I expected the Lighthouse to be my favorite of 2019. Parasite took the cake. y'all fuck with Snowpiercer?

Yeah its a good sci-fi flick for watching while stoned. Was surprised walking out of Parasite that it was the same guy. I really wanted to see Parasite a second time with the fiancé but it was out of theaters too quickly. Eagerly awaiting the January 28 DVD release date.

I liked Snowpiercer, but I think Okja is better.
Parasite is up there with Memories of Murder, though.

I dunno how you got the impression it was a heist or revenge film. The trailers pretty clearly make it about a degen. He doesn't WANT more, he a straight degenerate. And the "this is how I win" speech is a fantastic piece of acting specifically because he's done nothing but lose for the whole movie

Parasite was the best movie I saw of 2019. I had high hopes for uncut gems and I was geeking out about the trailer like the lot of you. A24, Adam, violence and drugs...all of it looked so good on paper and I was amped on it, i just thought it was a huge let down and def did not even remotely live up to the hype. I get people like it, but I guess I want to know why. Here is a review I found that I think sums up my feelings on it: www.flickfilosopher.com/2019/12/uncut-gems-movie-review-diamond-in-the-blech-lff2019.htmlnot the worst movie I saw, but for an A24 release it was pretty bland.

He was like "no way, man" there were some audible "damn" and "jesus Christ" etc coming out of us throughout the course of that movie

and DAT ASS.
Uncut Gems is definitely top 5 of the year for me. I understand how it's hard to take Sandler in that role, for me, it's when he is legit emotional and loud, but it just comes out as that fucking Adam Sandler voice. But the movie is full of tension, he did a great job. Just overall an impressive movie and I wanna see more work from the directors.

Still on my Stephen King bullshit. Watched Carrie and Cujo last couple days. Towards the end of The Dead Zone right now and I can’t help but think there are some parallels with the current Iran situation. Makes ya think 🤔
