I think I'm going to watch Last Black Man in San Francisco tonight.
I was listening to the Filmspotting review, and when they played a clip I immediately recognized Jello Biafra (unremarked by the hosts) and was like "are you freaking kidding me, that's great."

ok I'm like 6 minutes into Last Black Man in San Francisco and my eyes are popping out of my skull.
Are there any other photographers/technical people in here? This looks like it was filmed on sheet film, like in a 4x5 view camera or something. I mean obviously it's digital but how the hell did they do this? Are these non-anamorphic lenses or something? I sort of can't believe what I'm seeing, it's incredible.

I just watched this German film called Kamikaze 1989, it stars Rainer Werner Fassbinder as a detective who wears a leopard printed suit. The second half is utterly bonkers and becomes incoherent, but I was still entertained. It has the tackiest costume design I've ever seen, but I'm all about it.

Skimmed through it and it looks great!

I don't know what prompted me to look this up but check out this bit of prescience from Ebert in his review of Battlefield Earth:
Anyone ever watch this BTW? I've seen a lot of very good movies in the past couple weeks and I kind of want to watch something just absolutely shlocky and horrendous.

I watched it for the same reason (and yes it deserves its reputation), but couldn't even enjoy it in a "wow, it's so bad" way because it's really boring.

Just watched a movie on Prime called Fuzz from 1972 with Burt Reynold. (in a very low key role), prime Raquel Welch, Tom Skerritt and Jack Weston. About a dysfunctional and chaotic police department. Plays out like an early Altman film. Great mix of drama, action and dark humor, in the style of movies like Mother, Jugs and Speed. I miss movies like this. Highly recommended.

I have not seen battlefield earth but when I was landscaping, the dump we used to go to had a section full of donated books that you could take and I picked up a copy of battlefield earth there. I never read it, I just had to have it. It came out post-movie so it had John Travolta’s character on the cover. I also got a copy of High Priest by Timothy Leary.

Definitely seems like one of those movies that isn’t even fun to watch. You’re probably better off watching a compilation of bad scenes on YouTube. Same deal with The Room.

Never seen BE but that kind of stuff is best watched with friends in my experience. The Room and God's Not Dead are a blast with other people lol

In my apinion Battlefield Earth is not boring, it's fuckng hilarious. Literally every scene can be picked apart and laughed at, with a few minor tweaks it could be a great comedy about arrogant aliens who get outsmarted by cavemen.

Waiting for IMAX, but I'm pretty excited. I bet that’s going to be wild. It’s beautifully filmed. The whole night scene is incredible from a purely visual standpoint alone. You should enjoy it.

I know they're kinda everywhere now, but I did have my first Alamo Drafthouse experience when I was in Austin recently. Saw Uncut Gems and the 70mm restoration of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Both were fantastic.

Been seeing some criticisms of the story being too "unrealistic", but it's loosely based on a true story. I thought it was insanely good, and visually incredible. The beginning when they first get out of the trenches and there's dead bodies everywhere, and just filth and destruction, was just great.

Cuomo trying to get legislation passed in NY to allow all theatres to sell booze. Considering all the money in has put into promoting the craft beverage industry -- and how that will assuredly be tied to this -- I'm sure it gets through.
About time, too. Easy enough to sneak beers in a winter jacket but pretty impossible to hide a 16oz can in your shorts or jeans during warmer months.

Oh, shit, you guys can't buy booze at the movies in some states there? I'm not sure how long Ontario has been doing this but buying beer and not having to sneak beers in at the theatre is amazing.
I watched The Two Popes today and it was fucking fantastic. That is coming from a stern athiest and anti-religion person, too. Jonathon Pryce is absolutely amazing.
