Cuomo trying to get legislation passed in NY to allow all theatres to sell booze. Considering all the money in has put into promoting the craft beverage industry -- and how that will assuredly be tied to this -- I'm sure it gets through. About time, too. Easy enough to sneak beers in a winter jacket but pretty impossible to hide a 16oz can in your shorts or jeans during warmer months. I wrap mine in tin foil and put it in straight down and to the right. I waddle in there with my two-headed armadillo daring the pimply faced 16 year old tearing my ticket stub to say something. |

I mean I'm straight-up not gonna wear a hoodie in the summer. If I need to sneak booze in that bad, just a flask in the back pocket works just fine.

You don't wear it, just bring it in your arms. Nowadays we just throw them in a lunchbox cooler that my wife rocks like it's a purse. Let's be honest, other than the random nerdario on his/her first shift, a theater employee doesn't give nearly enough of a shit to question something unless it's obvious enough to beg a further glance. My new joy is ripping the cartridge in the bathroom like a true American Badass.
All said, finally watched Sorry to Bother You and Under the Silver Lake and I'm glad I did.

i've told this story before but when i worked in a theater in high school, someone managed to sneak 2 or more 30 racks of beer into a afternoon showing of spy kids 2. some of y'all need to step your game up.

1. No Hollywood in Editing - - although that predictor has gone down in recent years
2. No J.Lo, Awkwafina are real snubs
3. I was hoping Lupita would get in.
4. Phillips in directing is crazy - - although Gerwig didn't deserve it either IMO with that non-linear excuse to be different
5. We'll never had less than 8 Best Pictures with the current voting format
6. Im happy Kathy Bates got in - she gave 2 minutes of the best acting all year
7. Glad to see Hanks involved even tho I wasn't hot on the movie - - hasn't been nominated since Cast Away.

Uncut Gems getting nothing is absolutely preposterous. I don't really have any qualms with what DID get nominated -- save Joker, which I haven't seen and can't comment on -- but how does UG not at LEAST get something for sound mixing or editing? Also Lupita 10000% deserved a nom for Us.

if you asked me 2 months ago if I thought Uncut Gems was going to be nominated I'd have said no, but since it's been the talk of the town now I figured they get a nod or two.
On the upside, Parasite being nominated in three categories is great!

The Oscars exist to preserve the prestige of the studio machine. If they nominated every A24 release or whatever they'd be admitting their own obsolescence. They are there to pat themselves on the back before anyone else.

La La Land did not win everything, nor did it win Best Picture
I can’t believe Dafoe hasn’t been nominated for anything this year...I knew he wasn’t getting Oscar nomination bc he had no precedents, which is crazy. He has been nominated for Oscars the last two years for performances that aren’t even close to being as good as this one,
