Finally saw Civil War. The hairy moments were huge stand outs and it played like a highlight reel of the horrors of war. Ulitimately focused on what the cost of war journalism could be like.

I actually just watched Civil War too and I mostly fucking hated it.
Cast/acting was great, looked like a million bucks (it’s Garland, so) and the main action pieces were pretty tense but what the fuck was it about? This movie said NOTHING. You cannot release a movie like this in 2024, touching on journalism, nationalistic tribalism, erosion of belief in institutions and just say jack shit with any of it.
Also the music choices at a couple moments were VERY disarming and WTF.
As a defender of even MEN, I just don’t understand what Garland was going for here whatsoever. Movies don’t need to inherently ‘say’ something but movies about these topics sure do and he couldn’t have missed more egregiously.

I really enjoyed civil war. America is hard-rocking. I wen't in with that mindset and left with that mindset completely satisfied and entertained. I don’t care if that was Garland’s intent or not. Totally blackpilled on US politics. We deserve the worst.

The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something has Passed is pretty fucking funny. Taking clear influence from Chantal Akerman and Roy Andersson to depict a Brooklynite who coast through life in her BDSM relationships and corporate and family life. Lovers of deadpan comedies will dig this.

Wanted more from Furiosa tbh. It was definitely loud lol. But idk it didn’t hit the peaks that other movies in the series have. It was fine.

The cgi was noticeable in a lotta spots. Def looked and felt less realistic compared to FR Glad you said it, because it was really noticeable as were the sound stages. I loved the movie, but it's tough to compare it to FR. Kind of wish it was its own thing like the other movies and not so directly tied to FR and maybe I'd be kinder to it.

The biggest issue is that FR is too good. I’m forced to compare every subsequent movie in the franchise to it and they started it off with a movie that’s like a 12 outta 10

Ended up (sorta) seeing 'Furiosa' twice... first time someone pulled the fire alarm at the AMC when there was 40 minutes left. Second time showed up 45 minutes in.
'Furiosa' is the best movie of 2024. Incredible film making. Every detail in the world, costumes, characters, etc., is something I could think about for 2.5 hours. Supremely high level film making. They turn a big rig into a cthulhu monster!!! The baddies look like the guy from that GAUZE photo (spikes coming off his head) One of the most Most examples of a comic book movie.
Chris Hemsworth has done a good job at being a fine actor. But here, we see him go BIG with WEIRD choices and he fucking nailed it. Excited to see what's in store for him.
The #1 movie of the year. It doesn't have as much action as 'Fury Road' but that's the sequel. The sequels always have more! IMO this should be the textbook definition of a Good Prequel. Everything else sucks.

Men At Work came in AMC like 3 days after I bought the DVD. What a fucking great movie.
Recently rewatched The Terminator and Escape From New York back to back. Thats a good time.

'Missing' (1982) Based on the real-life experiences of Ed Horman. A conservative American businessman travels to Chile to investigate the sudden disappearance of his son after a military takeover. Accompanied by his son’s wife he uncovers a trail of cover-ups that implicate the US State department which supports the dictatorship.^^link (720p, 4.37gb) I might delete soon so download quick if possible. One of two Palme d'Or winners at Cannes in 1982. It seems like it's been disappeared? Not on any streaming services. Pairs well with director Costa Gavras' 1969 political thriller 'Z' or movies like 'Walker' (1987)? Movie is critical of US and its involvement with other countries (& their coups) so it's obvious why they sued the film makers. (I saw someone mention that the CIA wrote a three page report claiming that this movie isn't true haha.)

Civil War was whatever to me. It was shot well and the visuals, and idea that can happen to us is pretty wild, but the story, or lack thereof, was garbage. They didn’t even explain what was actually going on or how it started.

I didn’t love it by any means but I’m not mad at it from that perspective. It’s a short story and you’re thrown into the middle of something. I don’t need to know the ins and outs of everything every time, sometimes it’s just a ~~vibe~~

Civil War was pretty but nonsensical and really fucking boring.
Furiosa felt like an Amazon show.
Fall Guy was surprisingly pretty funny and knew exactly what it was. Pretty wild that's the only one of the three I'd watch again.

Speaking of Civil War, Cailee Spaeny is going to be in the new Knives Out movie with Josh O Conner and Andrew scoot. Glass Onion was kind of a let down but seeing that cast get announced piece by piece was wild

Furiosa was awesome. Yes, not as good as Fury Road, but IMO, that's OK. I think part of the reason why Fury Road's release hit so hard was because we weren't inundated with sequels and prequels and rehashings already, Mad Max was a beloved franchise of films that hadn't had an update in decades, and of course, the huge set-pieces and everything being meticulously created IRL made it look incredible.
Amazon show is a great way to describe it because it serves the same function in my life: it's a way for me to share something that I love with my wife, who didn't grow up on that stuff. And it's not bad! But nobody really asked for it?
That shit made me wanna build a rat bike or truck or some shit.
