If Mickey 17 is a bastardized studio cut, is it reasonable to wait for a director’s cut within the year? Would WB give him that cuz he’s so beloved?

Deadpool and Wolverine came out on digital, so rewatched it tonight. Damnit I love that movie.

Bong Joon Ho is claiming that he still has final cut, it was a clause in their contract. 

Mentioned it in the horror thread, but Terrifier 3 was a very fun time. Not sure why Damien Leone feels so inclined to make a slasher film that is over 2 hours long though. Some very vicious kills though.

Oh, a few months ago I thought I read WB has taken the movie away from him. I have no idea why they gave him a budget of 150 million. Dude doesn’t make movies that could ever break even on that budget. Expecting him to make one when he has a long track record of never doing that speaks to the stupidity of WB.

That's my guess. It seems like nowandays, there is always one or two films released in January that ends up being a surprise hit and maybe they think Mickey 17 could possibly do that

I just think, how could it be bad? Or even if it’s his worst movie, how could it be boring?

I had a couple friends who wen't to a test screening for it and all of them except one friend liked it. The one who didn't like it doesn't have the most reliable taste.

This will make me sound stupid, but how do test screenings work? Do you basically sign up for consideration on a studio’s website or something? Do you will fill out a questionnaire at the end or do folks interview you about your experience? How often are producers or directors in attendance? I assume producers are around sometimes.

There's a few different sites you can sign up for (Preview Free Movies, ERM Research, Before The Premiere, etc). You'll get e-mails announcing if something is screening, a majority of the time, the really big stuff is usually listed as a secret, but it's easy to tell when they list related movies. It's pretty much a first come, first serve situation, so you normally have to line up at least 2 hours early. While you're in line, you can be picked out by the staff to take part in a focus group for like 20 people (they usually try to pick a diverse group: age, gender, ethnicity), they usually clear out the theater and move those people to the very front and they ask various questions while the producers sit in the back of the theater. Got picked for a focus group for Nope while Jordan Peele sat in the back. Also did David O. Russell's last movie and I got to bash it while he sat behind me lol. Everyone generally fills out a questionnaires as soon as it's over.

So sometimes you realize what movie you’re seeing when you arrive at the screening? Cuz that legitimately sounds pretty exciting to me, especially if I get to see a Jordan Peele level movie. Do they ever do test screenings with incomplete CGI or chinks in the armor cuz they’re still in the middle of post production? Do you hafta sign an NDA?

When it's a secret, they usually describe it as "upcoming R-rated action blockbuster" or something along those lines. When you fill out the form to sign up, they usually ask if you've seen some related titles. For example, wen't to a test screening of the last 2 John Wick movies and the related titles were the other John Wick movies or other Keanu Reeves films. They sometimes make it very easy to figure out what you're watching. I believe with Nope, they said what it was. When I saw Nope, all the aerial shots were unfinished special effects. And yes, they make you sign an NDA, but you're allowed to talk about it once the movie is already out.

'Strange Darling' was made well but its gimmick annoyed the shit out of me. Yeah, if you rip out random pages from a book and read them in a different order of course it's going to come off mysterious, and then artificially create twists. Kinda hard to talk about without giving away what people will be surprised with so I'll leave it at that. The songs dispersed throughout ranged from "nice" to "unfitting".
