Leva Bates talked about it before, everyone gets paid to wrestle on Dark, no one has to pay AEW but people like Viva Van are likely flying themselves out for the spot. They book a lot of locals but pretty much anyone else is driving or flying themselves on their own dime. So definitely losing money on the transaction but doing it to get exposure (which sucks, imo).

I feel like I have heard of PWG being similar for a few people, like they'll pay you a match fee but they won't fly you out, so it's up to you on if the exposure is worth your transport costs. Definitely a lot less sketchy than paying to be on the show and probably handy if you are local to a place AEW comes through so can get that opportunity without needing to travel far.
