Then again, it would guarantee they’d lose it the real world. In this weird dystopia we live in now who fucking knows

An impeachment this late in the term guarantees they lose the election even with a new candidate. They won’t let it happen even if we find out trumps been getting pegged by Putin. I disagree that it guarantees anything. Republicans, for as goddamned dumb as they are, excel at spin. I have no doubt in the unlikely event the senate flips on him, they’ll sell it as if they were the heroes and people are dumb enough to buy it. Much like Stephen Rat Fucker Miller is trying to play this shit like Trump is the actual whistleblower in all of this.

If he gets impeached theyll have to find a new gorilla as enticing as trump to hold on to power.

Also, republicans are not dumb. Their base may be, but the ones on the hill know exactly what they are doing and they’re good at it. They are far superior politicians to the democrats and the fact that they’ve held this together until now is a testament to their skill.
Just because we don’t know what they’re doing, it doesn’t mean they don’t know exactly what they’re doing.

They just put someone like Romney up and claim they are going back to their “core” values.
“Trump was an experiment that failed. Here’s a mea culpa, we saved you from this traitor...” etc.
Voters are dumb as fuck.

We have different ideas of smart. Being great at deceit doesn’t mean you’re smart in my book. It just means you’re good at grifting. AKA republican MO.

Nah. They just know the electorate is dumb and they exploit that. Like a shitty rapper selling his CDs in Times Square to impressionable tourists. They’re not geniuses. They’re just good at scamming.

All of this is a pendulum. It will swing back eventually. And I don’t think it has a whole lot to do with outwitting the other side.

If they lose him I think the base will fracture. Not many established politicians willing to risk their career trying to emulate his appeal, nor would they have the charisma to lock down the big portion of his base that voted on emotion alone.

If you think Trump is at any risk of impeachment you have zero grasp of the current political climate in this tire fire of a country or how power works here.

How is it that no one has thrown a shoe at this dick-bag yet? I feel like there’s no way he would duck it as well as GWB did.

I think there's a high likelihood that the "impeachment guarantees Trump's reelection" narrative is a bluff by Republicans to prevent it from happening.
Frankly I don't see the upside for Trump. His rhetoric is going to be the *exact same* regardless of anything Dems do (I am exonerated, the Democrats are trying to get me, etc), so to my mind the Dems might as well show a little spine for once.

I think when someone like Grassley breaks, even if it’s only in support of the idea of an inquiry, I think that’s a crack that has the potential to spread *in the event* this gets messier. And it has only gotten messier. Like I said, to me, it feels a lot different than Russia. I even felt that the Maguire hearing wen't differently in the eyes of the public.
Point is, public apinion is shifting. apinion among voting republicans is shifting. It edges harder and the economy continues to show signs of weakening, this opens up the potential for a much different outcome than any previous scandal. This one has legs.
I don’t know. Maybe I’m just too hopeful. I also feel like he’ll lose in 2020. Don’t know where all this optimism came from, but here we are.
And agreed. At this point, Dems gotta do something anyway. Saying that as someone that was heavily against it two months ago.

Lol if you think voters apinions are changing due to this you need a reality check man. This is only galvanizing his base who already gives no fucks what any other politicians say. He says this is a witch hunt and his base is rallying behind him, as they have before, with blinders on. Even the supporters his policies have fucked are still behind him “because he knows what he’s doing and sometimes it gets harder before it gets better”

Ok, so if he wasn't so public right now about how batshit he is, I highly doubt his approval rating would've been hit as hard as it "seems" to be trending. Much like during the shutdown (which I keep forgetting was this same fucking year), his approval numbers sank the more he tried to stay in the public limelight. He gets a bump everytime he's not as loud as say like he is right now. So I think his base is more likely staying quiet like cowards right now cause they have little spin at the moment when he's shitting out his mouth. We'll see.

Even the supporters his policies have fucked are still behind him “because he knows what he’s doing and sometimes it gets harder before it gets better” I think Trump support is deceptively fragile despite being incredibly stable so far. It is based entirely on group identity rather than considered ideas (obviously). i.e. "I am x type of person and I should support Trump because other people like me support him." Should cracks appear in that framework, the whole thing could easily collapse quickly and completely. It's a Ponzi scheme where Republicans are mortgaging the future credibility of their party for short-term gains, and it's sustained for the moment by a total refusal to admit fault for anything at any time. I'm inclined for now to agree that Trump supporters have not been at all swayed by this scandal, but I also think making confident predictions about this sort of thing is really stupid. If a relatively small faction of Trump supporters and/or Republican officials were to break away, it could easily cause a cascading effect once people realize their own personal/group identity does not need to be entirely wrapped up around Trump any longer.

Yall ever watch narcos? For comparison sake here. For years, authorities"almost had him" and everytime not only did he escape, he got more dangerous. But Public apinion of him stayed high despite everything for a long time. Until it didn't. Him blowing up a plane shook some but not the majority of his supporters. But eventually, after the millionth car bomb, people came around.
Have we witnessed the tipping of the scales? Where are we in the timeline of his downfall. I mean we've all been saying since day 1 that the walls are closing in. Do you think they finally really are? And do you think he'll go quietly into the night, or do you think he's like a disgruntled Tennant and is gonna fuck up as much as he can on his way out? Actually NVM as I typed that I knew the answer.
We may be coming to an end of this saga but it's not over. Wait till he doesn't *mostly* incite Violence. I wouldn't put it past him to be explicit in wishing yall-queda would help him.
We never really wen't through all the stages of grief after the civil war. Maybe life is looking for the vig on that debt.

i already posted this months ago, but impeachment needs to be done and they need to make it hurt. every offense needs to be its own separate impeachment inquiry and it should start with the very first emoluments violation that occurred the day he stepped in to office. no recess, no breaks, and maximum effort until there is a full accounting of all crimes. make every republican politician look complicit and paint them as co-conspirators. to summarize, i want unrelenting degradation of fascist power structures through means of judicial, legislative, and financial recourse.
