Both people involved should be shot into space. "I can't say no to a dare." Mam, you're 60.

Speaking of cars and dummys I was driving on 95 and a Jeep with Maine plates drove by and the license plate was HWK2AH. I can’t believe how much traction that joke has gotten it makes me feel insane. Saw a lifted truck with a giant back window "HAWK TUAH... SPIT ON THAT THANG" decal the other day, it was just depressing. It's become a cultural touchstone the way advertising hooks were back in the day. "Where's the beef?" "Yo Qiero Taco Bell" "Got Milk?" "Hawk Tuah!"

It'll be real funny when the DOGE realizes that the return-on-investment for federal subsidization of deep red rural areas is, uh, underwhelming.

Elon and Vivek posting the least efficient departments on a public leaderboard is some real late stage retardation.

They will extract everything they can, and as long as we can get our cheap stuff delivered the next day and gas prices stay the same as they were 20 years ago, nothing will change. Let’s sit back and enjoy the water as we boil in it.

Unless millions of people suffer -- including concentration camps, rampant wartime sexual violence, disease outbreak -- we just can't fix anything. Normally, you would think that a massive global depression or a world war would curtail any sort of investment in zero emissions technology but actually it would make people care more because what increases people's consideration of others is suffering and death. I mean, the last time, it was cutting off people's fingers to pawn their jewelry and the mass rape of civilians in warzones, but this time it will be different.

We saw how "society" banded together in the face of a novel health crisis a few years ago. That was a faceless enemy we could've all rallied together to defeat and we didn't, it was viewed by one side as yet another opportunity to exploit deep-seated resentments and play identity politics, often for some sort of ancillary political/financial benefit (depending on who we're talking about).

So far I can count the collective brain cells of Trump’s cabinet on one hand. These guys might be evil, but they’re likely too dumb to be effectively evil.

I remember when our state outsourced the foster program to a religious non profit and it ended costing way more with way less oversight which in turn made it a hell for kids in foster care. I’m sure it will work out better at the federal level, though.

During the Cold War, the great interest in nuclear energy research in the U.S. basically died. Funding dried up. Opportunities were lost. Nothing for the private sector because it needed considerable federal support to get everything up and running. Everyone either got hired for defense purposes or left to do something else with their careers.
I guess it's easier to imagine bombing Venezuela into dust than it is to imagine living in a townhome with increased federal funding for urban tree canopies and maybe owning just one car.

Trump’s picks have gone exactly how Tom Nichols said they would. The least offensive first (not saying good), followed by unspeakably disgusting ones. With Trump having pull in his party like no one has ever had, and signaling that the whole congressional approval thing is garbage, wonder if any will buck him. Also wonder, if they do, how much fat ass will rage, and for how long. I think anybody who votes no on any of the chucklefuck monsters could legitimately lose reelection unless Trump is dead by then.

Only reason not to back Pete is if being gay still means losing the presidency in 2028. Same with Polis.
