Eh, I'm curious as to why none of the money from that tax would go to public transit projects, considering CARB was forthright about the need to reduce dependency on cars altogether (this got very little coverage). If you want to curb emissions, you need to cut down on total VMT. Lyft and Uber do not do that, although LA Metro Micro is intended to be a rideshare program that would (partially bc LA Metro Micro is going to be used to fill gaps in the existing public transit system, and encourage its use).

Lyft and Uber have done this in the past and won, so it doesn't surprise me that they are trying now. They've spent over 15 mil to get this passed, because they know it's going to ease their burden in transitioning to electric vehicles by 2030. Basically, Lyft gets to ride a populist sentiment into getting the public to pay for that transition.

Cars are an urban planning nightmare. They make everything that you would possibly want to do (improve air quality, build more multi-family housing, make an area more walkable) more difficult and expensive. I fucking hate cars! I hate them!!

I hate urban cars and am trying to be optimistic about the NYC congestion tax but I'm so accustomed to objectively good ideas dying somewhere in the legislative process.
