The right’s obsession with Hunter Biden is straight bizarre. Like who cares? He’s a fail son and he’s clearly a fucked up soul and if he was a little poorer he certainly would have gotten hit with a hot dose of fentanyl by now. This. I don't understand the fixation, and it speaks volumes about just how little ammo the GOP has while the literal sky is falling around them and their party. In an alternate timeline George W. keeps the party going after college, winds up like Hunter Biden and the GOP embraces him and his "shortcomings" for political gain.

Weirdly I think the Hunter Biden bullshit is an example of a great strength the right has: they just pick something and go with it, all work together and hammer away at it, from politicians and tv talking heads to individual voters and townie loudmouths.
We can only dream of that kind of cohesion on the left

This is the heart of what i was getting at on the last page. If the Teamsters or longshoremen backed the rail workers by threatening to strike, this wouldve been over before it started. Yall bitching about the democrats and im over here fuming at how fucking useless the AFL is. My old union (Sheet Metal, Air, Rail & Transportation-SMART) is one of the 4 that threatened strike action, but the union is divided by industry. Im waiting to hear back from some of my buddies but ill bet my annuity that the other branches of SMART werent about to strike with them. Solidarity brothers & sisters... its not just a catchy slogan.

Millennials going on about identity politics n annoying new words is basically the same thing as boomers prattling on about term limits: It’s a good indication that they have no idea what they’re talking about

The only time narc ever opened and shut a book was to alleviate a rather embarrassing case of gonorrhea.

I don't think it's my reading comprehension so much as my attention span, I skim, and I could take more time to think about it. I had a psychologist tell me my reading comprehension was good but nobody ever believes me when I tell them that.

That doesn’t make any sense.

The Vice President going to LatAm and telling them not to come to America is probably a problem for the democrats with the Latinx community.

Well, I don't know, I just really don't see the connection or I'm just completely misunderstanding what you're saying. I don't think something like the intense debate over the provision of gender neutral bathrooms is a primary impetus to mobilizing broad public support for universal single-payer healthcare.

trying to combat social, political and cultural hierarchies is perfectly good and also extremely based, especially when many of those are manifested and/or reflected in things like basic language, and I'm certainly in favour of an "any little bit helps" approach, but I can't help but feel it's a bit of smoke in mirrors in the face of the main driver for those hierarchies which is the deeply entrenched conservative status quo. People are getting hung up on one tiny tendril of that entrenched ideology all while its entire fatass body is smothering the planet.

1.) Like, I've edited pilot program materials that use the word "latinx" instead of "latino" or "latino/a" or whatever, and it had no effect on the ability to secure federal funding for a workforce development program. It doesn't determine whether the program functions well or not. There are particular instances in which particular words or rhetorical styles should be avoided (such as Tribal organizations dislike of the word "equity"), but it's not decisive.
2.) Asking pointed survey questions about stuff like this produces extremely misleading results. It's a pumped survey question. Anyone who has ever conducted or evaluated surveys that are actually intended to gauge public apinion for ethical research purposes can see right through that bullshit. For what reason would some group have an interest in conducting a pumped survey like that? Like, just think about the motivation for that for five seconds.

You don't think somebody voting Republican because of some culture war garbage makes implementation of progressive policy less likely? If it has this much sway over the outcome of progressive policy proposals, then it doesn't seem like culture war garbage at all. It seems like it is what people do in fact really care about, or at least is an effective way of symbolizing what people really care about. I don’t understand how something can be a distracting cultural wedge issue and simultaneously manage to wield determinative power over the fate of public policy. It's one or the other. It, of course, does not have that sort of power. However, pumping it up as if it does is a powerful right wing propaganda tactic which you're falling for.
