All I know is he was pouting about not being able to air a prerecorded speech before the World Cup final. Like, this isn’t a question of hearts and minds. The world is firmly against Putin’s incursion into Ukraine, but then what? Short of the world sending reinforcements into Ukraine, how do people see this ending? Ukraine being used as a meat shield to have the Russian army bash it’s head against the wall for a while, wasting resources and weakening themselves until the UN or US decide to get involved militarily after Russia does something fucked up or we say they’ve done something fucked up that might not even have happened to justify a full scale operation. Probably |

His country got invaded by a country like 5x the size of his. IMO swallowing his pride and doing everything he can to generate support and resources is exactly what a good leader should be doing.

He gotta do what he gotta do I guess, though once it's all over he's going to have an incredible job ahead of him and I bet he'll get chewed up and spit out. The cult of personality doesn't last long when you can't just get by with fiesty words and videos of you of the frontline. Once it comes time to rebuild, develop future international relations outside of "give me weapons or you're an asshole", and confront all of the loss of life, I have a feeling he'll get ousted pretty quick. Obviously I hope for real progressive social change in Ukraine, but let's not pretend like Ukraine was not a mess before all of this, both politically and socially. I'm skeptical as to there being a real progressive spark that can unify the country.

Sure, being a good wartime leader and terrible peacetime one is pretty common in history. If Winston Churchill can get embarrassed in what.. the year after the war's end?? Then it's really feasible, and even probable that Zelensky is unable to maintain his cult of personality when the zeitgeist dies down and it's time to actually run shit (including when the relatively dormant hardcore conservative elements, right wing, anti nato and pro-Russian elements begin to show their heads again)
