To add to the Holocaust survey. Your typical gen y-er isn't going to Holocaust museums and only nerdy ones like myself were reading WW2 history books in our teens and US schools only do surface level (sprinkled with exceptionalism) points of that era, so those results don't surprise me at all.
I'm fairly certain they weren't actually citing the 6 million number on the regular.

I wonder how those percentages shake out with Gen X and Boomers.
Still shocking to see some of that. I don’t even remember where I first learned about the Holocaust death toll, but it was pretty young and I’ve definitely seen it many times in many places since. It’s hard to imagine that many people making it into adulthood being that oblivious.

What actually happens in K-12 schools anymore? Is it all just standardized test prep? I think it depends on the school. A lot of people in my family are teachers and in public schools in good districts in NY, they still have a lot of freedom because the kids are going to score well with minimal drilling on the test content. For charter schools in the south (and I'm sure in NY), it sounds like they just teach to the test all day every day. |
