There's an octogenarian that comes into my work and splashes around for a couples hours a few days a week, just to get his steps in and engage his brain for the day. He had to pull cash and turns out he uses a rubberband for a moneyclip. He's wrapping it back up with a smile and goes "you know what they call that? An eyetalian wallet!" Dude next to him in his 30s turns red and retorts "well I guess I'll have to tell my dead grandfather about that."

There’s a nationwide difficulty recruiting and retaining teachers and bus drivers. Almost every single transit agency is dealing with a severe shortage of operators and almost every single school district is struggling to find enough teachers. Part of it is compensation and regular humdrum workforce issues, but the other part is that all varieties of low-prestige public-facing occupations have become completely miserable because of the public they have to deal with. So, if you include labor in the discussion of economic health, seems like those are two canaries in the coal-mine because both provide essential services.
