Amtrak is cool to me, got free pizza one time because most of the people had been on the train for 24 hours from florida and I was just going from RVA to DC.

Andy Byford is running Amtrak’s high-speed rail development program now. He seems to have the ambition and competency to pull it off.

Highly recommended. i used to take the tram from imperial beach to old town, a bus to la jolla station, the coaster to coaster to ocean side, then the amtrack to irvine and then to riverside. Took 4.5 hours to travel 90 miles but some great views on the first half. |

I rode a train for 3 days from Albany to Reno when I was 10 and it sucked so bad I think I blocked most of it out of my memory.
It was like 4 months before Pokemon Red/Blue came out and everybody got gameboys, too, or it wouldn't have been nearly as bad.

Longest trainride ive ever taken was frankfurt-stockholm. 14 hours. Thought id save money and just book a seat and not a bed. It was miserable. Got a bed on the way back.

I Would take the high speed rail between Seoul and Busan when I was in Korea. 8-10 hour trip done in 2-3 hours. Shit rocked.

Whatever happened to that high speed rail from LA to SF that passed via ballot in like 2008? Narc, have you ever rode Amtrack in California? It’s in construction. People are predictably bitching. And I haven’t taken CA amtrak yet. Or Metrolink. its only funded until 2030 and going from merced to bakersfield. thats not far at all. i voted against it 15 years ago bc i knew it would cost 2x-3x the amount it was projected and no surprise its barely being constructed. no smart person thinks this is a good idea bc we love driving way too much and flying from bay are to lax/burbank is like an hour |

In what regard was it “poorly planned”, exactly?
It also just got $3 billion more in funding from USDOT, plus various agreements with Brightline West. Besides the fact that there isn’t a single large transportation infrastructure project in the US that ISN’T over budget, it would be absurd to think that there wouldn’t be serious hurdles with the U.S. and CA building something neither has ever built before. And of all the other projects that are over budget and beyond the initial timeline, this one is considerably more worthwhile.
