I do not buy the reductive notion that there’s something special and intrinsic about Americans that makes them resistant to change or behave self-destructively. We're still dealing with too many people who supported Jim Crow, DECADES of Red Scare, 10 generations of American exceptionalism, Sherman not burning the entire South, Manifest Destiny, etc. |

Still a genocide. Nope, it’s not. It does qualify as ethnic cleansing, because Israel wants to remove an ethnic group, either by outright violence or a campaign of political and economic subjugation. You have two groups engaging in organized military activity against each other over a territorial dispute and one group has an incredible advantage over the other (the backing of the US military). The goal isn’t to eliminate Palestinians, but to make their lives so miserable that they will leave. Israel has deliberately danced around the legal line here. It's a genocide. |

Maybe citizens of other countries diverge from us in terms of resistance to change or self-destructive behavior, maybe they don’t. If they do, I doubt American exceptionalism owing to the above underpins it. |
