I know it's become so commonplace now but holy shit this is wild when you actually stop to think. He's the fucking president of the United States. He uses his Twitter to recommend investigations into people who criticize him. Like, the president tweets personal attacks at people. It is truly just some of the craziest shit. We'll never recover from this. “I’m going to be so presidential, folks.” I remember his Twitter use being one of the most barzoic haywireting things to me when he took office. I fucking hate Twitter, and what it’s done to silo people, and elevate and mainstream the loudest, most abhorrent trolls and provocateurs. Now it’s the official policy of the Executive Branch, but we’re still treating it like it’s the misguided trolling of a 4chan incel, rather than official communication from our federal government. Every single one of his tweets should be a national scandal and grounds for removal from office. Further, every congressperson now feels the need to communicate this way in order to keep pace, so we have otherwise respectable people working on behalf of progressivism clapping back with passive aggressive digs and insults they would never say in person or at a press conference. It represents a ratcheting-up of stupidity, and is just another example of the conservative cult dictating the conversation. Government leaders communicating like little babies over an internet platform also plays into the Republicans’ stated goal of dismantling the administrative state, by reinforcing the already miserable public apinion of federal leadership. I’m not saying any “they go low, we go high” bullshit; I’m saying I hate the impossible choice. Yeah, we’ll never recover from this, and I don’t want to play anymore. This all seems correct, but I have been told by this thread that what happens on Twitter doesn't matter |
