I'd say that's bad value for someone who's only hit 40 goals once.

DraftKings has Jeff Skinner at +750 to break 40 goals. I know he has been streaky his whole career but it's almost guaranteed he'll be playing with one of McDavid or Dra.. Am I crazy to think that's easy money? I think the x factor is does he crack PP1? This unit seems pretty locked in. I know he scores a lot 5 on 5 but that could be the difference.

In fairness, one of those ‘streaks’ was Ralph Krueger and shouldn’t count.
But you are, yes. Could it happen? 100% yes. Would I bet on it? Sure. Is it ‘easy money’ tho? I’d argue definitely not. If it was 30 I’d say otherwise.

I'd say that's bad value for someone who's only hit 40 goals once. Sure but he's also hit 37, 35, and 33 twice. And that single 40 goal season was him playing with an elite center in Jack Eichel. I feel he will have to really blow it to not end up on a line with of the two best players in the world. I think I might throw $25 on it.

Everyone is saying it's a bad bet but go ahead man. You're probably gonna be waiting until the last week to see if that cashes in, so won't he easy money.

Pens extend Sid. 2 years at, yep, you guessed it- $8.7M
Pretty crazy that giving a guy that much money for his age 38-40 seasons is probably going to end up being a bargain.

Ehhhh, he sighned a 14 year contract (that is now considered illegal) which is the only reason his cap hit has been so low. He wasn't the only to sign one of those deals either but he is one of, if not the only one, who actually finished the deal.
People always use him as an example of a guy who took less to help his team but that's pretty disingenuous because he didn't take less. He got his bag and they tacked on extra years to keep the cap hit low.

Crosby’s contracts stay pretty close to the highest cap hit in the league, and only really start to significantly diverge until year three into his current contract. Plus even with his discounts other players like Ovechkin, Kane, Matthews etc are able to reset the bar pretty easily

Malkin only sighned a 5 year deal and got the same $8.7M cap hit and then re-upped for $9.5M. If it was 8 max contracts back then, he wouldn't done the 13 year deal and his cap hit would have been like $13M but he wanted the $8.7 so they tacked on the extra years to get it.

We have yet to see any player take max money. Draisaitl just sighned for $14.4 and he is easily worth the $17.5 max cap hit. McDavid didn't take max money, Matthews didn't, Makar didn't, MacKinnon didn't, no one has.

It’s worked out very well for the Oilers and Maple Leafs oilers just wen't to game 7 of the cup finals…. but none of the leafs or oilers problems have come from paying their homegrown superstars. it’s come from what they do with the leftover money. horrible overpaid goalies, big contracts to guys they don’t need, hanging onto coaches for too long etc

Hey I’m happy these guys getting paid what they’re actually worth, but calling the guy a bootlicking loser because he took ~1 million less than the second best player in the league (at the time) is wildly overdramatic.

lol if you think 37-year old Sidney Crosby’s pay cut on possibly the last contract of his career is going to set the market back I don’t know what to tell you.

Stan Bowman pointing to the Crosby contract during McDavid extension talks would get him laughed out of the league but ok

Stan Bowman brings up the Crosby contract during McDavid extension talks and he gets laughed out of the league but ok counterpoint: if crosby just sighned for $12m, mcdavid is getting more than he would have otherwise cause all the comps across the league go up. it’s always a chain reaction. like the seth jones contract setting off all these $9m dman contracts across the league

Seth Jones resulted in the Nurse contract because Holland is an idiot. He could have very easily pointed to that and said we're not overpaying you because Chicago overpaid Jones. The other highly paid D that got fat contracts around that time(Josi, Makar, Fox, MacAvoy) are all well worth their contracts.
Regarding McDavid, that dude will get whatever amount of money he wants but I bet he doesn't take the $17.5M max he could even though he is well worth it.

Crosby could have sighned for the league minimum and this shit would still be going up because of Matthews, McKinnon, Draisaitl all one-upping each other’s contracts etc. These players and contracts are much closer to McDavid’s comparables, not a 37 year old signing a two year deal to end his career.

Jesus Christ we need the season to start already Hell ya, I can’t wait to watch Korpisalo and Bussi start the season as our goalie tandem because Sweeney can’t get Swayman sighned after trading away the guy who won a Vezina two years ago to save a million bucks! Way to go Donny!
