I think it's funny that many of the same people who think literal rapists and murderers can be rehabilitated also think that someone's life should be destroyed because they made a sketchy joke 10 years ago I feel like this isn’t true at all. Who have you seen do this? In fact, how many people have you even seen take a stance on both of those issues, let alone opposing ones? It certainly isn’t right-leaning people on this Venn diagram.

This is all very whiny. I'm super cool roasting creepers online. New Pats kicker has a white power tattoo? I can either say oh thats unfortunate to myself or I could say fuck that guy on board. Board.
But like even that example of the Pats kicker proves the very point that some are arguing in this thread. The founding "principles" of the 3%ers, as I understand it, are gun-rights and anti-federal government. The SPLC identifies them as an anti-government group, not a hate group. Are many, perhaps even most, 3%ers ALSO white supremacists? Undoubtedly yes. But is it also possible that a fucking redneck pro-gun college kid could get a 3% tattoo without it being a deliberate advertisement of his white supremacist convictions? Absolutely. Because things are complicated. But social media eliminates complication and nuance, so according to Twitter the news just becomes "NEW PATS KICKER IS A WHITE SUPREMACIST" full stop.
This isn't to defend militia dipshits, fuck them. But narratives on social media, often deployed in the rush to ruin someone's life, are almost always shallow and unforgivingly black and white.

We all hate racists, but letting our employers be our judge and jury just relinquishes more worker power. Your employer is an actual material contributor to systemic racism, dumb individuals generally are not. This is not excusing the behavior, but trying to modify how these issues are handled and what the root cause actually is. A white coworker of mine said the n word at work recently (while talking on the phone to someone) in reference to the Floyd protests. My boss was told about it (not by me) and didn't do anything, yet. The guy is a total white trash pos who says racially charged, homophobic, misogynistic, you name it, shit all the time. I told him what I think about it and made it clear he's not to talk to me anymore, but what about people who aren't comfortable with that kind of confrontation? I know this is anecdotal, but doesn't it matter to make a workplace somewhere where people of color and women feel comfortable that they can get through the day without the stress of contending with this shit? The key difference is that this happened at your place of work. Each case has to be handled separately and given due process. If someone is thought to be a danger to coworkers, then it should be handled as adults handle things. I've also worked with white trash racists in a mixed environment. There was a confrontation and the dude was dealt with and he was sent on his way. I didn't run to twitter with his personal information and then start digging up dirt on everyone in his social circle. The black dudes at my work were more than capable of handling this asshole without a bunch of creeps doxxing him.

I know many, many people who are anti-prison and who volunteer in prisons because "every person, no matter what they did, is redeemable," but who also are perfectly happy to cancel someone on social media for saying the wrong thing.

To be fair, multiple people who wen't to school with this kid came forward about how he would throw racist and homophobic slurs at them.

Oh, fair enough then. I honestly haven’t seen a single person hold such conflicting views, that’s why I was surprised by your comment.

On the real tho, you're probably right about the profile stuff -- i find it hard to believe that he'd be unable to distinguish between a high school student, a college student, and a full grown adult woman

Oh sure -- but that sort of proves what I'm saying, things are always more complex than they initially seem, in both directions. But the narrative, even before those people came forward, was TATTOO = BAD = DESTROY LIFE. And this time it turned out to be right. But we definitely didn't wait to be sure before the pitchforks came out.

Ive had similar convos amongst friends about that rehabilitative justice platform. I feel like prison reform is often presented as a rosy lil idea where all of the nonviolent dense nuggs of fat buds dealers of the world get released, but the reality is a lot of those muchachos have done some heinous shit and victimized people in very real ways
But w that said the book I'm readin now is about the origins of postbellum prison systems so ill get back to u on that

Also, people getting fired from their jobs, no matter the circumstance, is nothing to applaud. It's liberalism in its worst form. Stop doing the work of corporate HR departments on Twitter for free. The only thing to take away from that is how shitty our labor protections are in this country. If they can/will fire you for saying racist things, they'll do the same for being a socialist or trying to form a union. Corporations are far and away the most aggressive arbiters of environmental and worker violence in the world. They should not hold authority to fire people for things they say outside of the workplace. We all hate racists, but letting our employers be our judge and jury just relinquishes more worker power. Your employer is an actual material contributor to systemic racism, dumb individuals generally are not. This is not excusing the behavior, but trying to modify how these issues are handled and what the root cause actually is. Like does anyone actually think Starbucks can sincerely promote inclusion and diversity in their stores by holding company training sessions on the subject, while most of their product is harvested by underpaid brown people? FUCK OFF. a wide ranging "debate" relating exactly to this regarding the most recent Chapo episode lol

FUCK OFF. respectfully, this is PURE class reductionism. applauding a racist getting fired is liberalism? that's shaun kemp levels of stretching. first of all, they already fire you or severely cut your hours for trying to form unions. most importantly, nobody i know what would feel comfortable working with a loud racist. that's fine (awesome, actually) you and your co workers beat up some dude but that's not in the cards for most people. this sounds like some all lives matters crap but.....for racist workers? we can call out all the deep systematic shit while also not allowing racists to feel comfortable being racist.

I'm disappointed that Neal Brennan who co-wrote the greatest sketch comedy show of all time would be friends with a hack like this greaseball. 2 comedians know each other I hope Jeff Dunham does something heinous (besides his terrible, racist, boomer comedy) so we can see who the real ride or die comedians are. FYI so you don't take another sarcastic post seriously, that was also sarcasm.
